My daughter was 2.5 the night I shot this doe. It was our first hunt together. She loves snack sticks and already loves to hunt. We've been out 3 times this year and have a big hunt planned on Thanksgiving morning. She picked the property and the blind. She turns 4 on New Years Eve and one present will be a crossbow. We'll get her squeezing the trigger next year, then when she's 5.5 going in to the 2018 season, we'll assess whether she's going hunting or not. I know she understands animals, especially deer, equate to good food. You can talk to them all you want about the killing part, but my belief is until they've done it, it's wild card as to how they'll handle it. I do believe as parents we know our kids and can make educated guesses as to how they'll handle certain situations. At 2.5, mine was playing in a gut pile with her mom (a seasoned hunter in her own right) dissecting the heart. I don't think I have much to worry about...

My oldest is a pretender. I think he went this morning for me. We talked about it and we won't be going back out. I've never been one to force anything on my boys. They are simply not the outdoors type.

That stinks,but it's not for everyone. And who knows... maybe they'll change their minds one day.

I have two older brothers and neither hunt.
