I must admit... That's pretty fuggin ridiculous.[/QUOT

thats border line incompetence. If i did trust brocks opinion of him there would have been some serious profanity used to describe my feelings on it. Yeah and farmers arent using computers either..they dont watch the weather forcast or grain prices or apply for subsidies online either....

THIS IS WHY WE SHOULD BE PISSED

this is in regard to the farmers allowing hunting program

“The problem is that what we found ourselves doing was artificially raising expectations of our hunters, and that’s no good,” ODNR spokesman Mike Tonkovich said. “We didn’t expect that kind of an interest on the side of hunters.”

Hunters not interested in land to hunt on? Really? now i'm pissed

That's laughable at best...

Im not laughing cause this fella is in directly in charge of my passion and the fact that i spend roughly a couple grand on equipment each year to enjoy my passion ...these comments are highly irritating.

Bottom line we need a spokesperson and get organized... We can brainstorm all day long but in the end it takes organization and someone to present it Gents.....

Trying to stay optimistic here, and give the benefit of doubt, I'll just say that shows his willingness to say "oops". Additionally, I think it points the finger at the farmers; "Don't cry to us about too many deer when you folks won't participate in our program" Now, if anyone would actually have the balls to say that to the farm bureau is another thing all together. Anyone else contact Tonk yet to voice their concerns?

BTW, I think the alteration needed would be to eliminate the bonus shotgun season for starters. But first of course, there has to be recognition the herd has been lowered too far in areas.

Let the final numbers come out and I'll be on it. Anyone have any ideas for the new website URL?

I think we would have to brainstorm more on a theme. Sounds dumb but the proper name/catch would market better than just:

Wheresourdeer.com
Odnrsucks.com

We are just now in our discussions as a group. Once we have the details of numbers, ideas, resolutions then I think we could get a proper page name figured.

If he was surprised at the interest of us hunters to hunt... Imagine how surprised he'll be at our interest to actually see deer when we hunt... :smiley_depressive:

I would say that site would generate a little interest. BTW, if you decide to do that, you are going to want a domain name that will pop up in out of stater's searches of "Ohio whitetail hunting", etc. I would imagine that if the DOW sees web serches diverting to your new site, it would surely get some attention.

Here's an idea for an excellent venue to voice your concerns. Mike Tonkovich sits on the board of the Buckeye Big Buck Club. The BBBC is co-sponsored by the DOW and Mike is our liaison. Each year at the event, Mike gives a 1 hour "state of the state" seminar during the afternoon. About 30 minutes of his talk is Q&A. If you're not comfortable speaking out at a public forum, Mike is on hand most of the afternoon to talk with small groups and individuals. The Chief of the DOW is on hand for the dinner as is the Director of the ODNR most years. There probably isn't a better opportunity to make yourself heard to the people making the decisions than the BBBC Banquet...and if you like looking at trophy bucks, each year we invite the current class of inductees to bring their mount for display. We usually have over 200 bucks surrounding the banquet hall. And unlike the Deer & Turkey Expo, they're all big. This years BBBC Banquet will be held on February 18th at Ashland College.

Sounds like a great idea to me, Mike.

I'm curious about what your opinion is of the Ohio deer herd and the DOW's management plan/strategies... How have your deer sightings been in your area?

I'm not sure you want us interupting your meeting/banquet mike. your banquet is a celebration of fine trophies and not a proper place for this discussion IMHO. This could turn into and OBA meeting about crossbows:smiley_blackeye:. I'm not sure one on one time is it either really.

Google ODNR and that's what you'll get...oops, that's a site about Ohio hunters complaining about management practices. One of our state' greatest natural resources? The whitetail deer
