Yep. After shooting at 50-60 yards a 30 yard shot feels like hitting a barn with a Buick.

No doubt. I need to shoot some blank bale, but I need to get back to shooting 50 yards soon TOO. I'm going to embarrass myself this weekend, so that'll help spur me on to take my practice to the next level!!!

Gimme a break, dude... I've never once seen you shoot poorly, even when rusty! I'm sure you'll be flinging some darts like usual...

Do yourself a favor and try practicing at 40 or 50 yds. It doesn't mean you have to take a 50 yd shot while you're hunting. But trust me, after you fire a few groups from 50 yds, you'll step up to 20 and feel like you're shooting at a beach ball. It's a huge help, both in the form department and the confidence department.

Will do, do you practice on flat ground or elevated? I always practice evevated, minimum of 10'

95% of my practicing is from flat ground. I should probably shoot more from an elevated position, but I've never really had any issues with hitting my mark from a treestand. It's all about form and yardage estimation. Shooting from flat ground builds up my muscle endurance and helps me work on a good release. When I'm up in a tree, all I need to do is focus on bending at the waist, and remembering that I need to shoot for a yard or two less than what the rangefinder is telling me.

Mason and I are thinking we want to head over to the bow shoot tomorrow. With that in mind, I figured I should probably get the dust off one of the bows. The limited shooting I have done this summer has all been with recurves and longbows, so I guess I was a lil rusty with a Mathews. This is a 50 yard group, and I used the 40 yard pin on two of the four shots! The two that I shot with the proper pin hit pretty darn close to where I aimed. I might be in for a long day tomorrow, or a really short one as I only finished up a few arrows! :)

Funny thing is I am shooting better farther out than I am close up... 62 yards after having to fix some stuff at SCO last night.

I always shoot better at distance too, Charles. My arrows penetrate better beyond 30 yards too...but I don't think Milo buys that!:)

I've noticed that ata a distance I concentrate more. I pay more attention to my form and release. Seems like when I move closer I have it in my mind "this is a chip shot" and dont give as much effort as I do from further out.

Just picked my bow up from the string shop. What a difference a well tuned bow with good strings makes! Duh!

My groups at 30 yards improved greatly.

Now I need to get some new arrows and target...

Thanks for the recommendations for where to get new strings, but I went somewhere closer to home due to my work schedule. Viper-X Bow Strings in Mogadore.

Well I started working with my 12yo today after finally getting him a nice arrow rest, only got him sighted at 10 yds but he was in the kill zone almost every shot, made me a proud dad :D
