Ohio has a lot of accents. North of I-70, east of 77, ( and south and west respectfully). Strangely, Chillicothe folks have their own! When I drove a truck, and CBs were still popular, I entertained myself by guessing where folks were from by the CB lingo and tone. Amazing how accurately you can tell where people are from by the way the speak.

I've done lots of work all over Ohio for the past 20 years. I've met and spoken with hundreds, perhaps thousands of Ohioians. I think Brock nailed the pre-described lines here except the southeast line should be drawn at Rt 22 near Stubenville which would be a little north of 70.

And yes, Jesse Rousch does talk a little funny.

I grew up in the Cincinnati area but one county over - Clermont.
My family had a rural background, and I always had a little "country twang" thing going. Not much, but enough.
Comes out more when I'm relaxed, or tired.

So in my 30's I transfer to Dallas TX for a while and just fit right on in.
Two weeks after I'm there I call one of my suppliers in Columbus OH who I'd been dealing with forever.
Identified my company and myself from Dallas...had been talking to the girl for about 30 seconds and the girl stops and sighs and says "You know Dan, I just love listening to you guys from Texas!" rotflmao All I could say was "Well thank you ma'am..." Didn't have the heart to tell her I'd lived in Cincy all my life until 2 weeks prior.

I heard Jesse sounds like Popcorn Sutton.....might have his moonshine stash too!

I have noticed and done some research on accents. Most Appalachian accents drive from Scotland, and that is why many of the words are a very HARD R sound.

Like WARshington stuff like that!

Not nearly as annoying as the West Coast (California, Oregon, Washington) Hella-Bad or hella-kool or hella-awesome or hella-whatever you want to say after you say hella.
damn hippies....

One of the happiest days of my life was the day I saw the left coast in my rear view mirror.....

I have a friend originally from Cinci and he has a damn southern accent. I kept telling him, dude, you're from Ohio, why do you talk like that? That's how we talk where I'm from! But dude, you're from Ohio!

I'm from Jersey, but unless I'm drinking, you'd probably never pick up on it. But apparently I say wuter, and a variety of other words awkwardly according to the GF. Ya'll from Ohio do have some ridiculous changes in dialect though...

Yall aint from roun her are ya? LMAO.. I say "yall" a lot and everynow and then my g/f (who is from Michigan whole nother accent up there) will call me out saying "Yonder" I guess I can thank my mom and grandma for that, they are from Brethett and Hazard countys Ky..

Uh huh. So you know what I am talking about when I tell you my truck has all sorts of "pire" or look up on top of that mountain at the "celler tire". Mainly Knott county for my relatives but they have spread out to Hazard, Prestonsburg, and P-Ville since. Still plenty of them in Hindman and surrounding area.
