Minnesota Black Bear

I was lucky enough to get drawn for the 2010 Minnesota Bear Season. My wife is from central Minnesota and all her family still lives there. My brother in law invited me to go so I put in for the drawing. This was my first Bear hunt so I was pretty pumped. I decided to hunt with my muzzle loader bu took my Bow just in case I changed my mind. We hunted way up north within miles of the Canadian border in a State forest. The woods were awesome. I am sure some of these areas probably don't get touched by humans very often. The hunting was pretty slow but with the thought of a bear coming into the bait at any time kept me on the edge of my stand. I saw 2 bears during my visit and decided to take the 2nd one. I made a clean shot through the heart and the bear dropped within sight. The bear was quite a bit smaller than what I was after but I was happy with the harvest and the experience was truly exhilerating. I will definately be going back and this time knowing more about aging and sizing the bear will wait for a more mature bear. Pictures are on my other laptop but will post some when I get home.

Can't wait to see the pics! Going on a bear hunt is definitely on my list of "To-Do's" before I die. Hell, I'd just like to see one in person!!! Congrats on the bear!!!

That sounds awesome. It is definitely a dream of mine to go on a black bear hunt some day. I don't think I could hunt them with anything but a bow though. Just my personal preference.

Can't wait to see some pics and congrats on a first that I am sure that you will not forget anytime soon. ;)

Congrats on busting a bear! I don't know if I could hunt one with a bow, I'm too big of a puss, so I'd probably go the same route as you. Although, the thought of only having one shot on a bear kinda bothers me to. lol

I had a very hard time deciding what I wanted to use. I took my Bow, Muzzleloader, and Shotgun. With it being the first time I decided to go with the Muzzy. Figured it would give me a chance to figure out bear hunting but still have the excitement of only having one shot so make it count. I did carry a pistol also as my oh shit here he comes just in case weapon. Next time will definately be Bow. Pictures are still in the works. Couldn't get on last night.

Thanks for all the congrats!!!

See, I would be ok if I was carrying a pistol, although I probably couldn't hit the broadside of a barn in a tense situation. My biggest fear would be one trying to climb up and sit in the stand with me. Yeah, I know I'm a puss, but...

I went on my first canadian bear hunt this year and harvested one with a bow. I have to admit the walk into the stand in the morning dark makes you a little jumpy, but its all part of the rush. I loved it and would never take anything but a bow.
