Saw nothing...they aren't moving unless you (or someone) is moving them. very little hunter activity.

Two good things on my walk out though - flushed a cock pheasant that I haven't seen in years. There is usually a breeding pair on the neighbor's hillside that is CRP...so beautiful to see those birds as there as so few wild ones around here.

And then someone dumped a coyote (I'm assuming this morning, if it was last night, I almost stepped on it in the dark!) right where I park...he was missing his face. lol Love to see some dead coyotes if nothing else

Did some walking today. Me and the property owner, who doesn't hunt, tried to move some deer for Kody.
I walked up on Jagger in a nasty thicket. All I saw was him with his head down and tail down sneaking ahead of me like a ghost.

The owner saw same doe. Nothing ran past Kody. I guess we aren't very good dogs.

This is Jagger

Some of you know I've been after him for 2 years.

Southeast Ohio
Sat a field edge for the last hour of the evening. Saw one buck, and six does. Nothing within my comfort range to shoot.

Hardly any shots the last two days. Deer are moving the same as they would for bow season.

The woods
Hunted good private land this weekend, completely enrolled in undisturbed CRP, and didn't see a single deer all weekend. My girlfriend informed me that she no longer wanted to deer hunt any more because it was boring and we never see anything anymore. I don't blame her at all. It has never been this bad since I started hunting. Not a good time to be introducing a new hunter to deer hunting. Tonk will be receiving a letter expressing my grievences when I send in my deer hunters survey at the end of the season. It's hard not to take this crap real personal.

Did you go to Paint Creek or Fallsville? I used to have some great spots on Paint Creek. Doubt I could find a track down there these days.

I was on private, but was hunting right down the road from Fallsville. Every deer (if there were any) that was being pushed around by the drivers should have been flocking to this place, as it was about the only property in the area that did not have deer drives going on. I grew up hunting Fallsville and have killed some nice deer there. I use to go there before I could drive a vehicle and walk around with a video camera and it would be nothing to film 5 or 6 bucks just feeding in open fields in late August. The past few years however I would be surprised to even see a doe. It has literally became a deer desert here in northern Highland county. Southern Highland is just as bad in most parts. The only thing that keeps the harvest even reasonably stable is the flood of new hunters that I have seen in the past few years. I saw vehicles parked this season in places I have never saw before.

I'm well aware of the situation in the northern part of the county. The one area of southern Highland I have hunted did not seem to realize the damage until this year. I did not hunt down there at all, but my buddy that owns the farm has yet to kill a deer, and he has spent the last several years filling EVERY tag. Apparently, those prctices have caught up with that area. You may remember "Uncle Odie" from the other site. He completely quit hunting deer! The only two people I know down there both say they are gone...

He sure did! I spoke with him yesterday. He sold his bows and is going to give me the materials he'd bought to make a recurve and longbow. He says the deer numbers are so low down there now he just can't make himself hunt. Hard to imagine, really, as that country was loaded with deer a few years ago. My buddy Tony's farm is just a few miles from Odie's, and he hasn't had a deer in range this season.
