I just sold my old bow and bought a another bow used. For a decent price. Any way my old bow was maxed out at 60lbs, and this new one will go up to 70lbs but it is set at 65lbs. What a big difference of drawing back and a huge difference with my arrows flying to the target!! I can hardly see them with this new bow!....My old one I could see it the whole way! I was having so much fun with this bow that I shot for an hour and a half and still couldn't believe how much flatter and faster my new bow is. Now since this is only my 4th year bow hunting here is my question. This bow was set up for the old owner complete with a kisser and peep sight. I thought I would have to change it because of physical differences in owners. But I shot it at the range and felt very comfortable in my stance and where the bow broke and shooting it. The arrows where very true on their hits. So will I still need to change it? I mean I feel no difference in my holding position and it seems to fit me better than my old one. Give me advice guys!!

Oh PS

I was a little sore after shooting it ...gotta get my muscles in shape!! But I was rapid firing and holding it for a long time to simulate a deer looking at me.

Well, what did ya get?

And congrats on the purchase.

Beentown

I had a Fred Bear element....at 50-60lbs

I purchased a Whisper creek bow at 60-70lbs....

The old Fred was reliable, but I had it maxed out and it was dang slow. I could see my arrows and at 40 yrds it would arch pretty bad. I am not into brands or names....I just wanted a bow that was in the upper range when it came to poundage....the whisper creek bow came fully equipped and at a decent price....probably had what I paid for it in accessories.

Like the others said, if it's working for you, don't change a thing. As time goes on, you may end up tweaking a thing here or there, but for know, I would say just get out there and get to shooting it!

Ok...I so Here is the other thing....I don't plan on shooting 50 yrds but I was shooting better on the 50 yd target than I was at the 40 yrd.....I really don't plan on making any shot over 30 yrds but I was just toying around with the new bow and couldn't figure it out...But I think of it was user error and fatigue setting in. I just never really had the ablility to shoot at the 50 yrd target with my old bow...my pins had been maxed out and I had to aim like 20 inchs hight to even attempt that with my old bow. I just love the fact that I can go to the range now and use the 50 yrd target.

Like the others said, if it isn't broke don't fix it!

As for the 50 yd pin... I didn't have it on my old bow either, but my new bow has a 50 yarder on it. Even if you don't plan on shooting a deer at 50 yds, practicing regularly at 50 yds is an excellent way to work on form and confidence... and after shooting at 50+, those 30 yarders and closer seem like you're shooting at a beach ball!

If it helps, I got a great deal on a bow from LungBuster (his backup bow) and I took it into the backyard that afternoon, and shot with a bow for the first time outdoors (other than 1 night in a bow shop). The second shot looked like this:

You can see where my first shot went...damn that bag is outside right now I should put that in the garage...
Needless to say, I didn't change a darn thing on the bow. That said, this spring I will be in a position to consider putting a new string on it, kisser button for me, getting rid of the metal d-loop, etc... but take the advice of 'dont mess with it' cause that's worked for me in the same situation!

Thanks guys....I am still wet behind the ears when it comes to bows and I wasn't sure if you could leave a set up the same for different users or not....Ernie nice looking bow and since all of you say don't mess with it than I won't!

The few things i would ask you too look at are the following

1) Does the bow really fit you or are your fitting the bow?
2) have you walkback tuned to be sure centershot is established properly?
3) have your checked all the bolts and screws to be sure they are all tight?
4) have you check the nock fit with the arrows?
5) wax the string.....

1. I am shooting just as I did before with my old bow. Anchor point seems to be the same. I am not over drawing causing my chest to arch out and the draw is not too short causing me to have too much bend in my arm.

2. Yep I did that and it was like a button up shirt

3. Tight tight and tight

4. Nock fits nice perfect

5. The string has been waxed to perfection and I added a little more just to be safe
