I have had different "work" vehicles but my daily drivers went:

1986 Grand Am
1989 Ford Probe GT Turbo
1996 Ford Probe GT
1999 Ford Mustang Cobra
2001 Chevy Z71
2006 Dodge Hemi Durango

So it looks like my next should be a minivan seeing the progression.

1984 Mustang GT 5.0 litre. 302 motor, 750 holley carb and 410 rear end gears. Honest to goodness I don't know how I never killed myself or others in that car, let alone I never got a speeding ticket. I had that car for 2 years before selling it after tearing out the 2nd rear end in a month. I swear to God I still have dreams about that car. Eventually I'm gonna buy that same car within the next 10-12 years and have it ready for my son when he shows me he's ready for it

I mooched off my Mom for a while before I was able to pull the trigger on my dream.

1978 Trans Am. 6.6L. (the last of the big 400 Blocks) I aged my Dad something fierce back then. Street racing-distance from one town to another, sheriff chases...
Finally in the early to mid 1980's, I got onto track racing(auto cross for cars) By then I had pulled the 400 block and put in a 1969; 327 4blt main.

The last cop to pull me over was on rt 11 between Ashtabula and Youngstown. I was trying to break my old record of 32 min. Back then, they would have you come back and sit in the front seat to run the license or write out a ticket. As I settled in to my fate, I asked what the flashing box on his dash was that was pulsing and flashing
"156." He went off on me... lol

That was a beauty of a ride Jim! I agree with the others.

Outside of the summer I turned 16, most of my stupid stuff was on motorcycles. With my turds (Hyundai Excel, Honda Civic Wagon, VW Beetle) I couldn't get in much trouble. Most had speed limiters whether built in limiter or just not enough engine to get you in trouble. The motorcycles were a different story though. I should be dead for sure.

Are those really shorts? They really look like my wife's undergarment underwear. lmao

By the way, I saw your ride the other day, low mileage, near mint, and numbers matching $ 25k.

Where?

YA. I knew the shorts were a Issue...But it was around 1981-1982 so be nice...
That was the day after seeing AC/DC.

I'm trying to re-live those memories with my son, soon to be five. After 10 years of being out of muscle cars (while getting a family started, Like Phil, I''m done) I'm working my way back in....slowly.

See, I have a wife now and can't spend unlimited funds at Summit Racing and elsewhere like I used too.

Last Saturday, I did manage to pickup this 74 Chevy 400 small block with # 509 casting numbers. This is the heavy wall block with extra nickel. I'd love to find a 1966 Chevy II to place this in. I'm taking it piece by piece, little by little. Now the boy and I can hit some swap meets this summer. A Father-Son project in the making.

Huck; sadly no. The hat was stolen out of the front seat a few weeks later. I was bummed since I had just got it at the concert :pickle:

There are not too many opportunities to feel the full power of a vehicle at work. I am sure you could feel it in your racing. I never got that racing dirt bikes. Racing 2hr plus races was more about being smooth, not scrubbing speed, and fluidity. You tried to go as fast as possible while exerting as little energy as possible. 50hp on a 220lb bike is impressive. It is nothing like getting put back in your seat with 300-400-500-600HP in a hot rod though. Just doesn't compare. Closest I get to it now is when there is a wet/heavy snow and my dually has all 6 tires right at the point of breaking traction as I push a pile back and finesse the clutch. True power at work, but not the same as the g forces around corners or a full blown power slide in classic American iron in motion. Be thankful Jim. Most guys my age or younger have zero clue what you refer to. Probably a decent handful on this site, but let's face it, we are a rare breed of redneck here!! lmao

Would love to see them Jim. Post away!

At some point I pulled the Pontiac 400 block

005.jpg

And put in the 69 327 chevy 4Blt main
It ran like a raped ape and could not be broken!
