That's a major kick in the dick Mike. Hate to see it.

Figure I'll finish my JV season update. We finished 11-6-1 which really pisses me off and makes me feel like the season was a failure. We played two straight head up ass games tying Logan in 8 and losing to Athens on Tuesday. My guys got the big head and it bit them in the ass. I still had fun overall and can't wait to do it again. I'm still helping varsity as along as that lasts and our adult league starts on Sunday. Still lots of baseball to be had this summer!

My boys lost their opening game last night 10-7. They played horribly and I was pretty ticked off until I noticed the boys didn't seem to care. They were just happy to have played baseball. 9-10yr olds have a way of putting things in perspective. Still, they are gonna get some work in at our next practice!

But therein lies the issue for me Brock. This generation of kid has no killer instinct; no drive to win because they are taught that there are no winners or losers, just participants. Fuck that noise. If you don't win, you lose. Be a winner or be a loser and losing sucks. I'm not an overzealous win-at-all costs guy, but I do think we need to get back to teaching kids how to win.

Oh believe me, I'm with you there. I have two assistant coaches. One is older and has never lost at anything. The other just wants the boys to learn the right way win or lose. The older of the two was serving as the third base coach last night and gave his grandson the steal sign. The boy hesitated halfway to third and was thrown out....Ol Grandpa ripped his tail in front of everyone. The boy mouthed back so grandpa helped him to his seat in the dug out. Haha. I'm betting there will be smoke rolling off his cleats next time he's told to steal :). I think these boys will come around, but its going to take some tough lovin. They will receive that I assure you. Like you I've always been competative. Doesn't matter if its catching fish, sports, shooting bows, whatever. I expect to lose occassionally ----- but I expect to be beaten, I can't stand to beat myself. These boys are gonna learn that trait before we are done.

That's the politically correct method these days.
My daughter's team lost their opener last night in miserable fashion.
My son asked the score keeper around the 4th inning what the score was. She told him that they don't give out the scores. It had to be 20-2 by then.
Well, they lost and still made it the Dairy Queen for ice cream cones.
What is this logic?
When I played, we lost, we went home.
When I played, we won, we went to the DQ for ice cream.

My son's team has been learning the lesson as well. The head coach and the other assistant bought DQ for the first two wins we had. Ever since, the kids keep asking if it's a DQ night, win or lose. I was even told by 2 of the kids it was my turn to buy ice cream after they lost a game. Told them they would get it when they all played as a team, listened to the coaches AND won.....three wins later I bought it last night. They actually played great together and listened.

Great strategy, Chuck! One of the boys interrupted me while I was speaking with someone last year. He said,"You owe us a pizza". I responded that I owed him nothing, but he owed me three laps for interrupting. :). I wish I could make that kid's mother run.... She likes to butt-in as well.

That's hilarious! We have the small group of kids that cannot keep their attention on the game for more than 5 seconds, yet their moms are the first one's to complain their kid doesn't get to play any of the key positions or sit out more often. It's also about keeping kids safe and the kids that listen seem to be the safest out there.

I was a part of one of the best games I have ever witnessed last night. We played Athens at Athens in the first game of the tournament. The game was delayed until 7:45 because of rain and I was seriously worried whether we could turn it on or not. The first 6 1/2 innings were scoreless and the true definition of a pitchers dual/dog fight. In the bottom of the 6th, we gave up 4 runs on a couple walks, a mental error, and two wet grass/ball assisted throwing mistakes. I thought we were done and so did just about every one else there.

Then we all witnessed one the greatest comebacks in the lives of those boys. With 2 outs in the top of the 7th, we scored 5 runs on an infield hit, two walks, two bloopers off the handle of the bat, and a dropped fly ball by the right fielder. They managed to load the bases in the bottom, but we held them off to win 5-4. The first 6 1/2 innings took a little over an hour. The last inning and a half took an hour alone! What a game!!! We face the #3 team in the state in Miami Trace. Going to be interesting!!!

Dang! Helluva comeback!
In regard to Miami Trace, I just voted them 5 this week in the coach's poll. I voted Defiance, Sandusky Perkins, Edison, Dover, then Miami Trace. I only have seen Edison and Dover, so it's really hard to vote other than based on records. Good luck, man! I love rooting for underdogs.

After our sectional heartbreaker on Wednesday, I arrived at Kody and Klay's game to see them down 14-3 in the 4th inning. After getting a quick summary of earlier events from the head coach, I found out that a plethora of errors and crappy baserunning was the reason.

When I walk in, Kody is up with guys on and laces a double off the LC fence. Another kid hits his first homer of his career over the RC fence (later he would triple with the bases loaded). Long story short, some serious rallies led to a 15-14 victory. It was pretty cool to witness the turnaround! It made my day a little better after our heartbreaker right before that in the sectional.

Kody struck out his first time up today, but then hit his second home run of the season today breaking a tie game open with a 3 run shot to CF that just snuck over the fence. He also doubled over the left fielders head.

Klay went 4 for 5 with 3 singles, a double and a fly out in the leadoff spot.

It was a fun game to watch. Klay started on the mound but gave up 8 runs. No walks, so he's throwing strikes, but they were on him today. So we needed lots of offense and got it.

Kody also threw out two runners at second. He is really taking his catching duties serous.

Their team is now 6-1.

Ugh... The ups and downs of baseball. Kody got the Hood today (KKK) as he got his first look at a good curveball and was stunned. A curve got him all three times.
His team did win as Klay drove in a run with a groundout to second to help with a 3-2 win.

Kody and I went back to the field to work on hitting curves and now my elbow is shot. Lol

Klay, my string bean kid, led off the game with a double that one hopped the fence. Little fugger about yanked one out!

Congrats to jesse's Warren Warriors. They survived two tough teams in their sectional and districts (Miami Trace and Washington CH) to move on to the regionals. They play our local rival, Harrison Central, on Thursday in Zanesville. We beat Harrison twice this year, so it makes me even more sick how our season ended because we could very well be in this game as well. How cool would that have been? Jesse's Warriors against my Redskins?

Wish I could make it out to see the game Jess, but I have a workshop for school that I have to attend. My dad and I were going to come out and watch, but the 2:00 start time sucks! Good luck!!!

Now 4-1.

My son hit his first in the park home run yesterday to center. He was back at home before the ball made it back to the infield.
I've been calling him Homer for the past 16 hours.
