Those are unbelievable. Absolutely amazing mounts. This is making August seem sooo far away. Not only very nice bears but an all around very nice looking wall. I really appreciate you guys sharing your experiences with me. I am trying to learn all I can.

View attachment 13951Another different view of the big one.His hide was in great shape. No rubs at all.

Nice :)

I wish I would have taken a camera with me over the years but it just never occurred to us back when. I didnt start taking photo's till a few years back when I started getting on the net regularly. Oh well... You done real good! :)

Going in August i would be sure and take a good headnet to keep the bugs off of you.A thermacell would not be a bad idea. The hunt will be here before you know it.Be sure to take your camera with you and take lots of pictures of bears, bait sites and scenery you will appreciate later on.

Great pictures Boarhead! I'd love to go hunt Alaska someday... hell I'd like to just go to Alaska to take pictures someday.

Good luck this August Don! Look forward to seeing your pics from Maine. Two of my hunting buddies went in 2011. Both killed bears within the first few days of the hunt. Frank's bear was a beast, I don't remember the skull measurements but it was P&Y for sure, and really close to B&C.

Thanks for the good luck wishes guys. I already bought a head net to take with me. I figured with that time of year they could be bad. My guide said they're not bad in August but this is coming from someone who lives with them day in and day out. I am definitely taking my camera and a good size sd card. I keep telling myself it will be here before I know it TOO. Still seems to drag.

I don't think I'd be comfortable archery hunting in bear country unless I was allowed to carry a pistol or could set claymores around my setup.

On the list of things...
Maine has awful cell phone coverage!. Dont depend on a cell phone!!.
When we were there last is was pretty good down south but dont depend on it.
It's all about your carrier there. Think Verizon was the big one there and AT&T was none existent... or maybe it was the other way around. If it's important then ask the guide about it and pick up a burner if you have the one that isn't there.

Bear are pretty calm animals and when they get hit they dont charge 99% of the time ;) If your in a tree dont worry about it.

Brings another thing to mind... Cubs.
If you are hunting a bait you will have plenty of time to check for cubs. She wont always bring them in the first time. Take your time and make sure a sow doesn't have cubs. First year cubs wont make the first winter without her.

Claymore's, I like that.LOL When i hunted Alaska we kept either a sidearm or slug gun with us.There were alot of Brown bears in the area and you would have to be stupid not to carry a gun.One guy was hunting Brown bears when i was there and he took a 9 and a half footer over a thousand pounds.I held the skull and it was huge.It sure is different when you are tracking a bear knowing all the trails you are on were made by bears and not deer.

Just got the story on this from a guy here at work. This is a friend of his from here in WV that killed this bear week before last in Saskatchewan with a bow. (The guy I work with was in camp when this bear was killed and also killed a bear of his own.) Green score is 23.5" and weight was guessed at over 500 pounds after in bottomed out the scale at the outfitter. According to the guy I work with, Boone and Crockett contacted the guy who killed this bear and told him it will very likely be a Top 10 bear of all time. The B&C rep went on to say that of the Top 10 bears in the record books, 6 have been found dead. Of the 4 that were killed, all were killed with a gun. So it is very possible this is the new world record bow killed black bear. I'll keep everyone posted as I hear more...
