Thats awesome. Amazing to think how many miles its flown and how many times its probably been in flocks that have been shot into .

Slow day here , 2 mallards and 2 sprigs. Gonna lay off the ducks tomorrow and hit q goose field .

Seeing them here to mike but I think they are lessors. They flew over the house and their honk was distinctive as heck.

Ya we've been getting a lot of lessers around here too. Haven't seen any cacklers yet, though.

Mike that's awesome man! Congrats.

You fuggars all make me jealous! I went Tuesday and Friday mornings at the blind and we scratched out 2 ducks. No birds flew after 7:45 on Tuesday and we saw only a few mallards Friday. Moved to a new spot on the river yesterday and didn't see any natural duck flight. It's like all the birds disappeared. Just about every field is turned over and the freeze up pushed everything out of here. I've driven 800 miles in December scouting birds and looking for places to hunt. Without a boat or $ to lease fields down here, forget having good places to hunt. It's a miserable ass existence.

But I'm having a blast. The sunrise and companionship we shared was well worth the hour drive. I snapped some pics I'll get up later on. Our river spot is a beautiful place to hunt. But with the river being calm like it was yesterday, there's a million places to chill if you're a duck.

Does the bright sunshine hurt or help?

What about AmourAll on the dekes? Mine are a little dull. Good/bad?

Anyone Texas rigging?

Dont fret Jesse... The birds will be back.

Sometimes I think the sun helps a ton. Especially when its really cold. Early in the season it seems like bright sun is a curse though.

I've never used armorall on the dekes. Not sure I'd want them to be really shiny. I don't think real birds shine a whole lot, other than maybe their speculums or a bit on their heads, so I wouldn't get crazy with creating extra shine.

My buddies and I Texas rig all of our decoys. It is a bit harder on the paint, but IMO it's well worth it. They are so much easier to pick up and transport... Plus the cords never get tangled.

Hunted a field in the north zone tonight. Saw lots of birds but the geese didnt wanna commit. They've been working this field pretty hard on the city limits side so we were asking a lot trying to get em where we were. We did have a big group of mallards come in and finish perfect though. We managed to get four.

we had every flock of ducks that came in today commit, lock and drop altitude like I have never seen. Today was the best day of waterfowl field hunting I have ever had. We had a flock of better than one hundred just fall out of the sky onto us it was epic. We had two dozen duck decoys just behind our goose decoys and once we killed our geese we pulled out our five mojo ducks and it was like a damn magnet. keep in mind that if you want geese to finish don't have mojo ducks out, they seem to flare when they get close. We run mojos at first light in fields until the geese start flying then we pull em, once we get our limit of geese the mojos come back out.

What are you guys using in fields fora mallards?

We use some GHG mallard shells and place them mostly behind us... mixed in with the geese but not in front of the blinds. But honestly if you're in the right field you dont need duck decoys most of the time. They come into goose dekes just fine IMO. Spinners help a ton in fields but turn em off or pull em before the geese get to you.

I have a couple buddies coming in this weekend to do a combo duck/goose/deer hunt, so I hope we get a good push down the Ohio so those guys can have a good hunt. Kinda nervous about it after the last few hunts!
