im going shopping for some waders this spring i have never owned a pair , they are gonna be used for wading the lakes and creeks so i can get to good spots for shad , after last year of wading in clendening up to my belly in 40 degree water i figured it was time to get me some waders , can anyone point me in the right direction on what kind to get and brands would preferably like the kind with the boots built in

Get Cabelas brand Neoprene hunting waders, if they are used for cold weather make sure you get the 5 MM thickness and not the 3 MM. The 5 MM will be much warmer and will last longer also. I would recommend the hunting waders, they will work great for fishing also, they go all the way up to your shoulders and have nice wide shoulder straps that are very comfortable to wear. I have had many pairs of waders over the years......I use them for hunting, fishing and for work (bridge inspection) and these are the best waders that I've ever worn. You will spend a little more money for them, but it's worth it for all the reasons I mentioned above.

Ditto on the Cabelas waders. Just picked up a pair of Cabelas Super Mag 1,600 gram waders and they are the cats ass. If you are gonna be in cold water, these are the ticket.

I got mine at Cabelas too. :smiley_blink: Make sure you get a boot hanger, so that your waders don't get folds/wrinkles in the material, as that will be the first place they'll leak. The boot hanger will hold your chest waders upside down and can be mounted on the wall of your garage.

Come on now. They use there feet to find the holes with first lmao. The stick there foot near the entrance of the hole and if a cat bites it thats when they shove their foot in it's mouth and reach down and grab it lmao.

If there is a lot of under water debris and brush in the areas you will be wading, I would steer clear of Neoprene. Neoprene rips easily and is a bitch to patch. They are warm, but if you do any amount of walking in them, you will sweat and the waders will stink, badly.
I have been wearing waders/hip boots since I was about 12 for trapping and coon hunting. I have went through a lot of waders over the years and neoprene has been my least favorite. I believe the last pair I bought are Hodgemans or Red Balls, I'll take a look for ya.

the lake isnt to bad for debri but the creek is bad for it , i will be doing alot of walking , not to worried bout warmth cause i have been wading for years in 40 degree water so im used to being in cold water , im just tired of having leechs ,stuck to me , and having to bring a change of clothes and shoes and all the good stuff so durablty is high on my list

Mark I was wrong, the last pair I bought are Prolines. So far I haven't had any issues with them and they are made similar to a pair of Red Balls I had. Those Red Balls were the best beaver swamp waders I've ever owned. If waders can with stand a beaver swamp they are pretty dang tuff!

Sorry for no posting sooner UK. I have me a pair of rubber chest wadders when the water is warmer but in the fall thru spring I have the Neoprene insulated chest wadders. Keep in mind I fish rivers so stinky smell like mud is not a problem.
One thing that is A MUST with chest wadders, get a waist belt and always wear it. It are to fall in the belt helps slow down the water filling up your wadders.

If it were legal in Ohio then i would say do it like we did in Ms. We would take 50 gallon drums and cut them in half width wise. Cut a hole in the top about the size of a cantaloupe or larger.. Take the half a drum out in about 5 foot of water and place the large opening in the mud. This will basically leave you with half a drum with a hole in the lid.. Wade out and when you find the drum put your foot over the hole. Have a buddy go under and move your foot.. If he can't get him he needs to put your foot back before coming up. Doesn;t sound like big fish could get in there does it.. I've had them in there wrapped in a circle with their nose touching their tail. 16 pounds was the largest i've pull out of one.
The other way is to take a drum with no lid and cut it lengthwise.. Take that out there and set it in the mud so it's a long half a drum with an open end.. That's where you'll get the big ones. I pulled a 42 pound flattie out of one once. I have never, not once, put my hand in there and found anything but a cat though.. I guarantee you'll have a blast, and i'll guarantee you'll bleed. ..
