Morning started off almost spooking a bird off the roost, we moved off down in the woods about a 100 yards from where the bird was roosted and waited till we heard a gobble and I did some soft tree yelps. right away a hen fired up just east of us and flew down, took about 10 minutes of calling to fire the gobblers up. once they decided to come they didn't waste any time. one bird was about 200 yards in front of the other, he came up to about 45 yards and was drifting to my left. didn't think he was coming any closer so the hevi-13 6 shot put a end to his day. the other bird was still gobbling so I tried some fighting purrs and he came to about 80 yards, hung around and walked off. told my buddy that we would take my bird to the truck and come around this bird that was still out there from a different direction. tagged my bird and off we went. hit my Halloran twisted sister call and the bird fired up. worked him the rest of the way with a hooks mouth call. came so close to my buddy that he had to let him walk away before he killed him. great three days of season with three longbeards down.

Dang, it was a good day to turkey hunt!
I thought with cooler temps this morning would be good. It was. I shot a poor ol turkey too... It was a great hunt. He gobbled from sunrise until 845 with only a few minutes of quiet time mixed in. I bet he gobbled 200 times.

Great story Bob, sounds like a very good morning for you and your buddy.... Brock congrats on your bird also.... One of these days I'm going too have too take up this turkey hunting thing it sounds like fun lol......

I went out with my brother a couple of seasons back in the early 90's we had birds but nearly like we do now.... We'd put them too bed and hit it the next morning and they'd always do the opposite of what we thought.... Most frustrating huntin I'd ever done lol.... Then I just got too interfere with my bass tourneys and never went back out.... But with retirement looming I may need another hobby.....

You will indeed! They are a blast once you figure them out. And by that I mean once you realize they are turkeys and not much they do makes any sense!

Great stuff guys, your definitely giving some dirt naps! Im with Brock on taking the turks over deer cause you definitely have a lot more action and they will tell you if your going to have a good morning or not.
I had an awesome morning with my MOM, we walked out empty handed but experienced and awesome day together. She is my favorite hunting partner (sorry Ron), its the time that we get to catch up on all that's going on.

Congrats to those who connected. That includes aholdren. Connecting with some mom/son time or dad/son time as an adult is a feat in itself. Glad to hear so many made memories today. Nice birds fellas.
