Last names.

One of the baseball coaches in our community combined both last names with a hyphen. Now husband and wife both have hyphenated names, their kids too. Weird!
Wife must wear the pants in the family.

I don't buy the career ID idea. If a professional has a good reputation it will carry over to the new name.

My wife worked at a large university..all the women I ever met with hyphenated names seemed to be the type like..." I am woman...hear me roar".
