Go 40 x 30, those are the nicest and easiest barns to build. 12 foot walls.

But 15 x 30 aint bad either! All depends on what you are planning on using it for.

Just stay away from the odd sizes as the cost goes up. I built a 30x70 with 12' wall.with a 15ft. leanto on the one end to put my tractor and some equipment under. It seems the price is govern but the roof truse size.
Had 4 windows install and one walk through door. The 2 garage doors are 10' and 15'.
The pole barn builder is a neighbor and he builds over 50 barns per year. He only puts on shingle roof over plywood. If the customer wants a metal roof it also has to be installed over plywood. If not he won't build a barn for you. With the plywood sub roof it won't sweat and rain indoors. Also he said a metal will leak and just a matter of when. With a plywood sub roof and shingles he has no roof leak call backs. I agree.
With 12' walls after pouring 5" concrete floor you'll end up with 11.5' finished walls.
I put my man cave on the end where the leanto and walk through door are.
Just be sure to have concrete floor put in because if you don't you probably never will move the stuff out to pour concrete.

If you plan on putting in a loft for 2nd story storage have sissor jack roof truse used instead of regular truse. I didn't and now I have a area of 15x30 with less than 3' of floor between the floor and roof truse. I'm contacting a building contractor friend of mine and see if I can rebuild the truse and remove the center section.
I did install sissor jack truse over the small garage door so I could install a car lift. As luck would have it my son installed a car lift at his warehouse so now I don't have to.

Other good news today is my son informed me he is picking up the expense of all the labor and buried cable. I guess he's starting to remember I used to chance his dirty diapers when he as young. LOL

I ordered my huge erector set last night, 28x54x14. It will accommodate a 14 foot door height on the gable end as the ceiling height should be around 17.5' . Let the fun begin.

Good for you. Just in time to cut into your deer hunting time. LOL
But on the other hand with some help it should go pretty fast.
Be safe. Is it one of those rounded metal building panel building?

No, Large rectangle look with gable roof. I may add a covered porch to the one side. We shall see on how far the funds go.

I'll now have enough room to work on the 67 Chevy II and then pick up a future antique ride for my daughter. Got my eye on a 69 Mustang Fastback that's sitting in someone's woods on my way to my cabin. One of these days I'm going to stop and ask the question.

I got the 5 walls of plugs put in. Worked on the switches today for the ceiling and outside lights. I'll be darn if I didn't make a mistake when I put the wire in 3 yrs. ago. Took me 2 hr. to sort it out buts it's OK now.
I'll make a point to mark my runs in the future.

We painted the man cave today. I'll start moving my equipment in next week. Can't wait. It's going to be a slow project as deer hunting comes first.
Then comes the deer horn collection and book collection to sort out.

You know the old internet saying right Frank?

This thread is worthless without pictures! :smiley_clap:

When I got done last night I was really dragging. Even though my son sent down one of his employees to help. Two coats on a 30x15 room, all wood. I'll post pictures of the reloading bench when moved in next week. Getting ready for Lima Flea Market the rest of this week.
Need to install a inside walk through door yet and insulate the ceiling and one inside wall. All the free batting insulation is laying there but it just doesn't seem to jump there where it belongs on it's own. I hate to work with insulation.
It'll take me all winter to sort out and bring everything there.

Back on the man cave today. Calked all the cracks. Then used new salvaged battening fiberglass insulation to insulate the inside wall. I saved over $1000 using the salvage new insulation my friend gave me. The airport built a new hanger and threw all the extra insulation away. The only problem I have is the sheets are 32" wide and covered with plastic and only 2" thick. So I remove the plastic sheeting and have to install 3 sheets in each 6" wall cavity. I think they used this plastic 2" insulation for rood covering.
But it will warm and toasty during the winter and cool in the summer. The ceiling will be a lot easier and can use all the scrapes to fill the 10" ceiling joist.
Need to get my equipment moved in before deer season.

Damn I hate to work with fiberglass insulation. I wear a good face mask and just take a good soapy shower when done. I won't ask anyone else to help me as it's just too damn dirty work. The wall be done tomorrow.

A picture of the 30 ft. inside wall I'm insulating. The white pile in front is the bagged up insulation I'm working with. The wall is fully insulated up to the door. I need to move a storage cabinet to do the rest.
I have the 15 ft. reloading bench is tore apart and waiting for help next week to move the parts up. The bench is one 3 ft. and two 6 ft. lab tables bought at auction from Miami Univ. and damn are they heavily built out of maple 4x4 legs and plastic covered 1" tops.
I installed a 4" 3/8" steel plate across the front full length to re-enforce and to mount the reloading presses to.
It's coming together. But will slow down because of deer hunting in 2 weeks.

So jealous. Every square foot of my shop space is covered in work related stuff. Guess I have 30yrs to get my man cave. You paid your dues. You earned yours for sure. Hope you enjoy the heck out of it Frank!
