I decided to head out to the woods this afternoon and took my youngest daughter with me. We drove the truck back to the edge of the woods and took out some corn and the trail cam and picked up my climber stand. We took the climber back to the truck and she wanted to go for a walk and check out the woods with me.:smiley_clap: (Took her long enough to get interested in the outdoors. She will be 15 in July)
As we was about to wrap up our little stroll through the woods and looking at all the tracks in the snow we hit the field edge (winter wheat field) We start up the edge of the field and I look up to the top of the little hill and notice something small, fuzzy brown working the field. I started stalking with the daughter in tow and the stupid thing just stays there with it's face planted in the snow eating away. I get about 20' and see it's a groundhog. WTF!!!! Why is a groundhog out in the middle of winter ? Then I get to about 2' from him before he even notices me lmao. It is a young little feller that probably didn't build up enough fat to sleep the entire winter. He woke up and had to eat to survive another day.
This is the first time in my many years I have EVER seen a groundhog in the snow this late in the year. Pretty cool I had my daughter along for the day :smiley_clap:.
