Let me get this straight.

As many of you know I am no fan of unions. With that said.

2009 Chrysler declares chapter 11 bankruptcy.

Chrysler defaults on approximately $4 billion in debt.

Chrysler receives a government tax payer bail out of one 1.3 billion.

Chrysler emerges from bankruptcy with the UAW owning 65% of the company, and Italian automaker FIAT owning the other 35%.

Chrysler pays back it's government bailout money.

Last January the UAW sells all interest in Chrysler to FIAT.


At the end of the day here is what happened. The UAW single-handedly destroyed through oppressive demands an American built company founded in 1925 forcing them into bankruptcy. Investors are screwed out of $4 billion in investments. The taxpayers shoulder the burden to keep the American company alive. It emerges from bankruptcy on solid ground with 65% ownership going to American unionized auto workers. They sell all interest in the company henceforth making it in Italian Corporation. I don't ever in my life want to hear another UAW worker say "Buy American". Living proof that the UAWs greed has no bounds, no morals, and the last thing they give a shit about is an American company.

I was never a huge Ford fan. I give them credit. Of the big three, they held their own the best. GM and Chrysler sold their souls to the devil. Ford products have proven to be solid on their own. Wish they made a reliable diesel. Probably buy Ford gas powered trucks moving forward. Why? Joe figured it out already in the start of the thread. Pretty sad.

When all that buyout crap was going on, Ram broke off and started its own company. It's no longer part of any company besides RAM. You don't have to settle for that half asses PowerStroke or 5.4

They may be selling it under a new rebranded name "Ram Trucks", but I doubt if they aren't still owned by FCA (Fiat Chrysler Auto). They are still being assembled in Chrysler assembly, engine, stamping plants.

I never really looked into it because I can't afford a new truck anyways and don't really have any plans to sell the one I have. No biggie man, that's what these forums are for, is learning and bouncing ideas off of each other. I work in the industry, is the only reason I had any idea about it.

I can definitely understand the frustration with how things have gone with the car companies and unions and all. Still have to remember that at one time unions were responsible for a lot of good in the country and a lot of what most have today when it comes to pay and benefits was due to that. Still with how everything works good old politics and greed has ruined it all as well as this country. The one thing I hope people (union and non) all remember is for every union employee in the USA there are many many non-union people like me who are affected by what these companies do, where they buy and build products, etc..

For me the work I do is directly related to any one of the 3 car companies at any given time. Our company does design work for much larger companies who contract with (generally) the 3 for assembly lines for things like engines, transmissions, axle and brake assemblies, etc.. Several years ago it used to be Chrysler, then it was basically Ford who has kept my family fed through the whole recession til even today. GM has dabbled here and there with them when they weren't having Japanese companies do their design work. The most recent stuff I am working on is going to the great state of Ohio, Cleveland to be exact. Back when most of the Chrysler stuff we were doing was headed to Mexico we couldn't help but feel pretty shitty about what that meant for our country. Seeing how much Ford has invested in the USA, especially throughout the recession, and the fact they continue to invest says something to me.

Am I driving Ford? No, not yet but it is my goal to be. My Chevy truck has just over 270K on it and still runs great (knock on wood). The car we just got is a Chevy because it was one of the only places we could get approved at the time. The mini-van we have is a Chrysler that just turned 100K and burns about a quart of oil every 1000 miles, which to Chrysler is acceptable and changed their standards to accommodate that. It also sits in our driveway not running at the moment.

Do I understand why so many buy so-called foreign? Yes and no. To me if you do some research and get an idea of where the thing was at least assembled and can justify helping some other family in the USA then I say go for it. Doesn't have to be union to me. Sure not much is made here any more, especially parts, but some is and a lot are at least assembled here. If foreign companies impact your community then I say go for it.

I won't disagree with this statement at all. However. . . things change. Remember when it was a positive to shoot more does? Remember what some of the acceptable medicinal standards were 100yrs ago? Even 50yrs ago? 20yrs ago? Things change. What was once accepted as a good thing, is not always the case. In my opinion, "some" unions are still good. Some unions are a reason for a portion of our problems. I won't paint with a broad stroke of the brush and say all unions are bad.

Giles is not completely misguided in his thought process. As I recall, some of the Dodge trucks did not say Dodge or Chrysler on the titles. The titles were typed out Ram Truck. It was very misleading.

Correct, same type of situation as Mazda, they are Ford Motor Company "brand". Ram trucks is now a brand of Chrysler (FCA).

If any of those are packing a 5.9 Cummins or Duramax, it'd be worth rebuilding them time and time again. Thats my plan with my truck, it's an 06' that still books around $30,000! Thats just stupid…I didn't pay anywhere near that 3 years ago.

I used to be USA, through and through. My Jeep Liberty, and my Ford Truck. Then in November after the wife hit the deer in the Liberty, I went out 2 days later and bought a Kia that gets 35mpg, for about $12,000. Im not even sure where its made, Korea I think. With todays economy, and the gas prices then ($3.50gal) I couldn't afford to let my wife drive anything else as a traveling Nurse. I don't feel bad about it either. Although when, or if I do get a new truck, It will be another Ford most likely

I put 50K miles on an 96' S-10, 75K on an '01 Jeep Cherokee Sport, 125K on an '06 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 105K on an '11 Ford F-150, wife has put 85K on the GMC Envoy and I have 17K on a '14 Silverado. They have all been good vehicles, but I loved my '01 Jeep and '11 F-150 the best. This Silverado rides great, but it don't have the low end balls my Ford had. The two don't compare off road either. We are in the market for a new vehicle and I'm torn about what to do as I don't want to support Government Motors, but the Traverse is exactly what we are looking for. With vehicles it is a crap shoot IMO...

We've owned multiple Honda Pilot's, a Tahoe, and a Journey. By far the best was the Pilot's! (3 young kids)
