This would be an absolute blast and some serious big deer in that area. I would certainly try to attend this one.

If wanted, I can see if I can get permission for a group on a farm in Ashland cty.

I may try to make that depending on how things are going.

A question for all of you

I have avoided hunting with a bunch of guys during my life because I just don't like the idea of hunting with someone I don't know well. I became that was because of a rabbit hunting incident 40 years ago where the guy I was hunting with was carrying a single shot shotgun through the brush with the hammer cocked all the time. When I noticed it a few hours into the hunt and I questioned him he said it took too long to cock the hammer and he would lose shot opportunities. I had been around this guy for hrs with him carrying a gun in that condition. I was very sobering for me.

In light of the thread by Joel about his buddy being shot with the crossbow by a hunting companion. How do you ever think about any possible concerns joining up to drive deer with guys with guns, from a internet website, that you may not know well enough to assess their ability to safely handle a firearm?

We would all like to think that everyone hunting has been taught to handle a firearm safely as we have, but the reality is probably not quite so absolute.

That's certainly a valid concern Lundy, and one I've considered. I'm not one to let fear govern my life, so it's a risk I'm willing to take. Part of the prehunt strategy session would be a talk about gun safety. I also plan on doing a ton of leg work for this in an effort to have safely constructed drives in place to avoid issues that would arrise from an "in the moment" drive. There's a possibility we could get shot in our treestands from an errant bullet or arrow too, but we rarely consider that threat.

I expect those who show up to this event to be safe handlers of firearms and I trust that this will be the case from this group. My desire to spend time outdoors with this brotherhood outweighs any concern I may have regarding "guys with guns, from a internet website"...

X2

Lundy has valid points. You do TOO Jesse.

I think a pregame safety talk/strategy session would pull all into focus of what this hunt is truly about.

As with anything in life, you take your chances.

After meeting most of the guys here I would have no problem doing drives with them.

If I had the above mentality I wouldn't be able to drive. Much more probability of an incident doing that and many other activities.

Deer drives when done right can be a very enjoyable day... Safety is foremost and the realization that it's only a deer has too be in the mindset.... I've spent lots of years with these guys on forums and here on too.... I don't have a problem with joining in on a days worth of deer drives whatsoever....
