Broke my Scent Smoker. Got in late. As we are getting settled I spy a good buck within 100yds. Probably curious about all the grape vines I was yanking off the ladder and platform earlier. We freeze. He moves on either scent checking does or trying to wind us. I try to get Garrett into his insulated covrralls. He drops a boot off stand. I retrieve it along with the bolt lost on way up ladder.

Nothing since. I ask Garrett if it is better than school even with the events. Big smiles and "Yeah!"

Gosh I hope those were grape vines in the dark and not poison ivy.

Man you can smell the musky urine od scent in the air.

Sun isn't over the hill yet and my neighbor is mowing his horse pasture...I doubt I see anything mature. Still better sitting here than that mower! Lol

They're used too equipment operation out in the fields, that usually doesn't bother them.... Now he gets inside that wood line with it they'll take notice real quick lol....

Had the owner mow a hayfield for an hour and a half and ten minutes after he was gone they filtered out into the fields..... Just like nothing happened....

Our "just before legal light" buck sighting was all we saw. Good luck to those still out. Garrett wants to head out tonight. He mentioned the tree house so we could stay out of the wind. We shall see. I might squirrel hunt my way to the camera to swap cards and see if it is worth hunting.

The buck we saw is possibly the biggest I have seen from the stand this year. Definitely a 3yr old. Not enough light gathering in the binoculars to tell if he was any older or just how much antler was on his head. Nice frame. I would say with confidence solid 120's. Possibly bigger. Wouldn't hurt my feelings if he outdid his dad this year but I think a basket rack would suit him as well.

Last night looking at trail camera pics I mentioned the size of the body on one of the bucks. He looks at me and said "I don't care about that. Aren't we looking for the biggest antlers now?" I laughed because he said it with a smile knowing he was making a funny. I said "Garrett, you might be looking for antlers, but I am looking at the freezer. Big antlers works, but for a kid who has never killed a buck I think any bone on his head will be just fine." He agreed. Not sure how to take it. Part of me is proud. Bigger part of me wants to be sure I am not sending the wrong message about antlers. He can choose to be a trophy hunter later if he wants. For now I just want him to appreciate hunting and respect the animals.
