Once again, I'm doing a bad job of keeping up with this thing.
Saturday morning I went out to the "gar hole" farm. I saw 7, four of which were bucks, I think. The best one was an 8 that was probably 120-130. Nice looking deer, needs a year or two.
Had to work Saturday evening, so we didn't get out until Sunday morning. Mason and I went up to Fayette. He wanted to hunt the fencerow stand, alone. Some days you can see a lot of deer from that stand, and I felt comfortable with him being in it by himself for his first solo sit. He saw two bucks at first light and later shot a squirrel with his bow. I sat in the timber and saw one small buck. I too, shot a squirrel.
Sunday evening, Mason and I headed to the fencerow stand down home where the big boys live. Fayette is just a fun place to go this year. I'd be really surprised if we saw on up there big enough to make us shoot right now, but you never know. When we go to our stands down here, it seems more serious, maybe even a little less fun. However, we had a fun hunt last night. We saw a bunch of small bucks and a few does. I lost count, but Mason said it was around 15... IDK.
So this morning I headed back up to Fayette. I saw 18, actually 15 for sure. I suspect three of them I saw twice. Three coyotes too. I shot at one at 30 yards but a fletching had come unglued on the back end and I didn't notice. Arrow flew horribly and sailed over the yote's back. And it was a slam-dunk opportunity, really bummed me out!
I came home, ran over to the other farm to check cams. We should have been at the blind last night. Our big boy was there with shooting light remaining. I about crapped when I saw the vids! I've been getting him once in a while over there, but more so at the fencerow. They are about 3/4 mile apart. You just never know where you should be. I tried to hunt the fencerow tonight, but after making half of the long walk two times with a dog following, I gave up and went over the ground blind...saw nothing. I'm going to have to talk to this dog's owner. It's getting old.
Here is a pic from last night. He was 22 yards from the blind in this pic.
