I over slept this morning. Home game last night meant we had a shop full of football fans until way late. I was tired. I made it to my favorite stand in the world (Fayette Co.) and was settled about 9. I really just wanted to make sure it was still in good shape as I haven't been in it since last year. About 5 minutes after I sat down I saw a big antlered rascal about 1/2 mile north of me. That was as close as he got. Shortly after, I saw two antlerless deer fooling around and a young buck that would score about 115 with 8 pretty points joined them. They ran him off pretty quick and they drifted out of sight soon after. I then saw a doe pop up from the CRP ground and bound off, with the same 8 point nosing around. He eventually gave up, and ran towards me and continued on into a woodlot. Pretty good sit that only last an hour and 15 minutes or so.
I did a little snooping around a blind I built last March. There are 6 scrapes visible from the blind! I went back home, got some tools to clear brush, went to the feed mill for some corn and headed back to Fayette. I cleared shooting lanes, dumped corn, and boogied back home before running over to check a cam I've been letting soak. "Masons buck" was on it...holy cow, what a deer. I'd love to hunt tonight, but can't. Mason and I will get in there as soon as the stars align.
I don't have any cams on the Fayette Co. farm, but the landowner does. I have NEVER seen so many rubs and scrapes on the place. I didn't look at the pics, but the landowner told me there has been a giant 10 showing up on his often. He has been hitting rubs on trees about the size of a fat man's thigh, and that is where the cams are. I will be slipping up there over the next week. Even though that is not where the really big ones are, there is no place I'd rather be the first two weeks of November! And, some of the biggest deer I have ever seen were on this property. Pretty cool not having a clue what will come by...
