We bought a new equinox and less than a week later the transmission goes out.I'm passed and told the dealership that we want a different vehicle. There stance is that their putting a new transmission in it so there is nothing that we can do. I told them that we bought a new vehicle, not a repaired one. Car has a little over 400 miles on it and we have had it less than a week. Any one have any suggestions.

Talk to cooperate. They should have a 30 day guarantee. You'll probably still end up spending money with them, just be able to pick a different vehicle.

Lemon laws. Read up on them. Best I have to offer. I believe there are a few times the dealer has to have remedied or attempted to fix it before they are forced to take the vehicle back. Not sure exactly. I'm not a lawyer so I am not sure if there is any other recourse outside of following the guidelines in the lemon laws.

What's wrong with having a new tranny installed? As log as they aren't rebuilding the old one I don't see what the big deal is. Yea it sucks, but a new tranny is a new tranny. Are you just assuming the entire car is a lemon just because the tranny went out? If my horn quits working on my truck after 400 miles, should I ask for a different truck?

Sorry but I lol'd at the horn. I would be definitely be running it up the chain as far as I could go without being a dick, but wouldn't be asking for a new vehicle. It's brand new, no difference then if it had been swapped on the line. As long as it's covered for 400 additional miles beyond original warranty, I feel you are getting fair service if supplied a rental (they better be). If it was bought used and they wanted to put in a rebuilt, then ya, I'd be pissed.

However it ends up, I wish you the best. Keep us posted.

Because we paid 32000 dollars for a new vehicle, not a repaired vehicle. I guess that I'm a little more particular about what I get when I'm paying for it. Big difference between a horn and a transmission.

Sometimes new things break. That's why the manufacturer gives you a warranty. How many vehicle manufacturers give you a "replace the whole vehicle guarantee?"

I agree it's a lot of money and it sucks. But was it the dealer's fault the transmission went out?

Bonemonger- keep in mind it is the off season. We are bored. I'm sure everyone here feels bad for your situation. It truly sucks and we would probably all be pretty hot in your shoes. Good luck with it.

In the end, I think so long as it was a new transmission and not rebuilt, I would get over it. I would NOT forget, but I would deal with it. Pretty good point was made- it really wasn't the dealer's fault. They are in a shitty spot too.

Someone is responsible, I bought a vehicle that I think that should last more than 400miles. It's general motors fault not the dealers.

I hope it works out for you man. GM might take care of you, I don't know. I'd ask the dealer for the regional GM representative in your area. Good luck.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, I spent the money and I expect a new vehicle not a repaired one. If gms quality control sucks it's not my fault. Ive contacted GMC about it and so far all I've got is the run around.

Bob you can try running it up the ladder, I doubt they'll do anything as much as replacing a vehicle they can change the transmission on.... I'd stand my ground as long as you could and in the end ask for a much longer warranty on it.... Citing your lack of confidence in their product.....

Man that really sucks, had a buddy buy a new dodge truck and tranny was leaking right after he bought it,same thing they replaced a part in it.
He felt the same way,big problem was he bought a dodge truck.lol

It is a bummer, but like jagermeister stated, that is why they offer a warranty. I've always had a motto I live by, everything man makes breaks, pretty simple and always factual.

We just bought a new 2016 Nissan Rogue last Thursday. So far so good (200 miles), I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Yeah it sucks but its just a fluke. Chances are you will never have trouble with it again. Now for the rest of it i dont know. Might want to see about getting a extended warranty on it if you dont have one. I had a C6 go out on a F-250 that i had that was just a tad pass the limit on the warranty and ford told me to stick it in my ass so i have been driving chevy ever since.
