I refer to it as narrative therapy. Not sure where I heard it. Read it somewhere? Maybe Jesse typed it out once? I don't know but it fits. Sometimes our answer is in our head. We just need to type it out.

Giles, if you have or get a CDL I am willing to bet you would have a job in no time at all. As you know I have been looking for something new as well and I can tell you brother with all the emails I get for Companies hiring freaking CDL is the way TOO go if you have an interest. Just my 2 cents worth. Best of luck my friend.

I've had some sit down conversations with the bosses about many other things. I never give up on anything...it's kicking my ass to think about giving up on this place. The bosses are encouraging me to stay and grow into a management position. But....fugg...I don't know guys.

I've been bouncing back and forth on this for a while now. And the wife is now pushing me towards leaving because she's not happy and things are effecting her... Id love to stay and make a difference. It's a good company to work for, just fighting lazy workers and a pompous boss. The big boss is on my side with all this.

Idk...I feel like I'm rambling and none of this is making sense as it reads. I'm all over the place and need to shut or get off the pot.

It's not like you're picking out a pair of sneakers here. Changing jobs is a big decision that not only affects you but also your family. If anything deserves a lot of thought and consideration, it's this kind of thing.

If it were me, I'd ask the big boss what kind of timeline he's talking about in terms of going into management and factor that into the decision. In the short term it may suck getting there, but it could be something that pays off for many years.

Oh yeah - pro tip - if you want to advance in pretty much any career, remember - they are called Brazil nuts lol

Haha! Brazil nuts...never heard of them before. Lmao!

The big boss wants me in management within a year. He wants me in a position to make things happen/change the things I don't like. Right now my biggest complaints all go back to lack of communication.

A big problem the company is fighting right now is finding people. We have 3 full time positions available and 7 seasonal positions. We can't even get people to apply...

With that being said, we can't get rid of the dead beats because we need them. Good workers are leaving or getting pissed because they're carrying the dead weight and doing the work of 3 people. Takes all the fun out of working... Everyone is either stressed or doesn't give two shits. The place isn't running like a team.

Ever met a happy truck driver? I haven't...99% of them could kick Chuck Norris's ass too, just ask them.

LOL, only at truck stops with the Lizards. No buddy I was just saying the CDL jobs are a dime a dozen out there. It is not the life for me I might add.

Not too many. The ones I do see either drive a union route making serious bank, or they are on a steady route/home daily/generally in a straight truck. Say propane truck or delivering welding gas or similar. On the flip side, it would be difficult to get a state, county, city, or municipality job on a road crew without a CDL. If you don't have one, it can keep you from getting many jobs which aren't "truck driver" jobs.

I know where your coming from, Dave. Seems like in the grain business it's hard to find bodies, and the lazy fuggs have found a routine that lets them escape any real work or accountability. It's the same story at every facility. Dont piss away your years waiting on those guys to give you a chance. Make it happen your way

I got my cdl right after high school, and I wouldn't have a had either of my jobs without it. There's plenty of jobs out there where a cdl comes in handy, aside from being an otr trucker. I've always looked at it as having a cdl, is having a job.

Looking around it looks like even just a class B would help. I'm just not interested in driving cross country/OTR at all. I've driven semi since for a bunch of years...just never needed a CDL. Between farm tags and military, just never needed it.

Is there any jobs that let me ride around in equipment all year around drinking beer? That'd be the life...

Lots of great advice for you to chew on by everyone. I particularly like Joes take here Dave!

Your job sounds a lot like my job! Lots of deadbeats and fewer hard workers! When us old school hard working people retire there isn't going to be much left to get the work done! Many don't even show up for work these days! Don't they have bills?!?! Rant over....lol

I have no idea what the country is going to do in 20 years when all the good guys are retired.

Not sure what to think. Will it take 20yrs? All we can do is raise our kids to work hard and have self respect Dave. Not sure there is a single freaking thing we can do. Too many people voting in a way that keeps them paid without working. It got contagious. Now nobody wants to work. We have rapidly ran into a wall. Pretty soon they will realize they can't print enough money to pay people to stay home. It will come back around one way or another. Hopefully with the US still a world leader.
