How about we start with them "working" not "showing up". They also expect to get off work for everything...my wife got sick last night. So fucking what? Get your ass to work!

The sense of entitlement in people these days is amazing to me. When I was growing up, If you wanted something, you worked for it, you didn't expect mommy or daddy or fedgov to give it to you.

I remember watching the news back when hurricane Katrina hit LA and all those people were stuck in the Superdome. One lady being interviewed was complaining and saying something along the lines of, "They don't have anything for us to do! We're bored! They don't have games for us to play or nothing! What are we supposed to do?" Seriously lady??? You just got slammed by a cat 5 hurricane and you think you're entitled to government supplied entertainment?

Then you have all the kids who think college should be free. I watched one girl being interviewed about the "free college" BS being dangled out there in this election cycle. The reporter asked her, "You do realize that someone has to pay for it, right?" to which this bright young mind replied, "Um, hellloooo - it's called FREE. What part of FREE don't you understand???"

I have a pretty dim outlook for our country.

Couldn't agree more Blan, Giles, and FS. I believe the majority of guys on this site feel similar. Majority of my friends and family feel similar. How in the heck did things get so skewed? I grasp to find this answer. I struggle with fears my children will face. How do I prepare them? Outside of teaching them right from wrong, how to work hard, honesty. . . I often find myself trying to find some solid advice to offer them . I have 2 in high school and one in middle school. Right now the best I can come up with is telling them to work hard in school, continue to work hard when others are not, and focus on keeping debt low in the future. I'm not sure what else to offer them.

Honestly Phil, I think school is one of the biggest scams. Look at what they are teaching our kids these days. How to take a test! This common core math is the biggest joke ever.

Put all these kids in uniform...teach them all the same and let it be what it is.

If you can't afford to make this happen...put your ass in a work program. The free bullshit needs to stop! I work 50-60 hours a week...I'm also a disabled veteran...I still don't get the luxury of seeing my kids. Yet, the person with no job makes more money than me and sees their kids all day/every day. The system is broken...

Completely agree with school being a scam. I still encourage it. I expect them to work hard at it. They still need to be on or above part with society. But. . . .they cannot fall into "thinking" like the rest of society. It's a tough one to teach.

Have them play sports. Let them get yelled at. Let them learn how to listen and work as a team. Those are the skills missing in today's world.

I refer to it as narrative therapy. Not sure where I heard it. Read it somewhere? Maybe Jesse typed it out once? I don't know but it fits. Sometimes our answer is in our head. We just need to type it out.
Twas I. It works and it's why this place exists. There's more to life than hunting. Lots of great folks around here to garner input from in addition to the relief of just getting it off your chest and out there.

Carry on Dave. Think out load. Me and Phil do it all the time. lmao

I agree, Phil. IMO this is really important. Don't do it and you'll end up with all kinds of crazy from your kids. And you're right - it's hard. Hard for us and hard for them. They hear non-stop BS from teachers and other classmates. To walk away untouched by it, even if it's just a little, is about impossible. It's like that old saying: "If you repeat a lie often enough, people will believe it..." I think that's what's going on in a huge way in our schools, especially in college.

Why does college tuition jump 6-7% every year while the curriculum stays the same? Why does it cost 100K and up to get a BA degree so you can get an 30 to 40k/year entry level job? Has anybody in our government ever looked into how many quality job openings are out there versus how many students graduate from college in a given year? People with jobs are working longer, more foreigners have entered our job force, most of our manufacturing jobs went over seas, technology replacing workers all have been huge factors in why we are where we are at today and i don't see it getting better or even being addressed by our elected officials!

Rant over.....

Definitely, Dave. I have first hand experience with that and our oldest son. I told my wife not that long ago that we will never try to point any of our other kids in that direction, that from now on we're going to try to point them towards a trade. College isn't what it used to be, not by a long shot.

Don't worry...the government is full of "free money" to help you pay for college...

My wife is in her 3rd of school for medical assistance. After she completes the program she should expect to make $13-16 an hour. Meanwhile, they want to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour. Are you mother fuckers serious?!
