Crossbows...

I bought a parker last year, Got the wife one this year,
With the price and they being made in Virginia, plus the lifetime warranty, Anti dry fire, Comes with 4 arrows quiver, field points and scope. less than $500.00.
Our local bow shop carries them and if anything goes wrong they replace limbs and cables at their cost, strings will be replaced for anything other than wear,(if it dryfires they will check everything and replace at parker's cost),All this for that price,I feel that I could not get anything from a box store and the service that i get with local bow shop.

I shoot both a compound and a crossbow. If I wake up to go hunting and everything hurts I take the crossbow. If I feel good I take the compound.

You guys should hear Mason give me heck about me using his Excalibur. I think it's funny, now that he has killed one deer with a vertical bow, he thinks it's the only way to go. I killed deer with a bow for 30 years before ever shooting one with a crossbow. I've now killed two with a crossbow and absolutely love that thing! Like many of you, I felt no difference and more importantly, neither did the deer.

I call the crossbow the great equalizer when it comes to kids, women and any that don't have the time or patience to get good at archery. One thing I will say about it though is I would much, much, much rather tote around my compound than have to carry the crossbow we have for the kids. The other thing about them, when kids are using mostly, is the need for a rest. We have shooting sticks but man how many times does a deer show up where you least expect them?! Not easy moving around to get to a different window in a blind when that happens. Hell, the way I'm going this year with not shooting my bow yet I may just have to use the crossbow!

I'm not a huge fan of the cross bows for my own personal use, but, anything that will get young men and women off of the Xbox, phone, computer and out in the woods is ok in my book.

It can definitely be overwhelming. I was lucky enough to have a pretty knowledgeable Archer get me into the sport and help me along the way. I'd definitely recommend making friends with someone that knows good form and can help you along when you start learning.

Ha! Ha! Close, it was the year before when I picked up my E-35. Last year I barely shot before season too and think I only took it out a couple times to actually hunt with.
I shoot a crossbow because it's much more affordable. I'm using a youth model Barnett that shoots 300 ft per second. It's fun for the family. Maybe some day I'll have enough money laying around that I'll get me something nice, but this one works and you can get them for $250-300 new.
