Shot a good one tonight. Would be my best. High shoulder hit, about 8 inches of penetration. H3 took off through a cut cornfield with my arrow hanging out of his shoulder. Made it about 250 yards before it came out. I lost sight of him after another 70 yards or so. Then he vanished.

Adam and I looked for 4 hours. The only blood we found was a few drops at the arrow which was broken off right behind the insert. Blood was bright red.

He could have gone anywhere. Finding a drop of blood in the middle of a cut corn field is all but impossible. He's not still in the field, so he had to have gone at least another 300 yards or so after losing the arrow.

I'm at a loss, I can not figure out why he didn't drop in that field. I firmly believe I got a lung. As he was running, the broadleaf had to be turning that lung into hamburger. How in the fuck did he make it at least 600 yards?

Get a tracking dog, hope you find him

Yellow is the stand. Blue is where he came from. Red is the route after the shot. Arrow was found where the red line stops, also where I lost sight of him. Black is likely routes. He's not in the field. We checked the places we figured he might go, but with no blood, he could have gone anywhere.

That's a couple hours from me. Zero chance I could help before Sunday. Hopefully someone else is closer and could help a brother out. What time is rain coming for you guys over that way?

Don't rule anything out, but if I had to put money on it, I'd bet he looped around towards the direction he came from. Hope you find something good tomorrow

I agree with with Xbowguy. I would head straight to that small block of timber dead west of your stand and see if you can find where he exited the field. Also the block of woods south of that has the small river running though it.

Dave, something I did once and it paid off. I skipped the whole field idea and went to the fenceline (or equivalent) and proceeded around the field. I thoroughly checked every opening (or fraction of) for blood. Deer tend to loose blood when crossing the fence ect ect. Take a spray bottle of peroxide as well. This will be your friend if only used once in the task. Bottom line, if that deer left the field, you should know it. I would start where you shot him and go left. Good Luck Buddy!

Unfortunately, I couldn't get out of work today. We are slammed and shorthanded. (If any of you guys know a welder in North- northwest ohio looking for work, let me know)

At this point, blood might be pointless, it rained last night. Adam is going out this morning to search. He knows a couple people that own some of the neighboring properties and will see about g3tting permission to look. If he finds anything he's going to call me. My boss would probably be OK with me needing to leave for a couple hours to tag and drag.
Im busting ass to get my stuff done so I can leave. If nothing else, I'll have about an hour and a half of daylight today after work and all day tomorrow. If it's dead, we should be able to find it.

If I were a hit deer I'd probably follow the low terrain feature of that field on my way out....trying to keep the wind in my face (remember the wind direction last night?).

Sometimes deer back track to where they were before the hit and other times seek out water to replenish dehydration.

Good luck.
