Finally made it to decent cell service and a good Mexican restaurant in Ellington, MO about 30 minutes from camp.
We took off out of camp at 8 this morning and put some boot leather down. We scouted 3 spots and decided to set up on some food plots across the river from us in some of the most remote wilderness I've ever been in. We launched the canoe around 2:30 and were setup by 3:30. I was at full draw on a massive doe at last light, but held off due to being so far back in and not wanting to fool with just a doe tonight. Chad also saw a doe, along with a bull elk with a cow and calf. We kind of expected to see elk after finding fresh sign on our scouting trip. We also saw several flocks of snow geese and 2 ospreys.
The best thing about our hunt was the silence. You can't hear shit down here expect nature. No cars. No dogs. No leaf blowers, horns, kids, planes. Nothing. It's awesome...
We saw a big flock of turkeys this morning and plan to set up on them in the AM. Then we are headed to a big network of ridges to hang and hunt the afternoon and leave our stands for Saturday AM.
