Congrats. There are some good threads on here about muzzle loaders. Best thing I can tell you is to scribe a couple marks on your ram rod. One empty and one with bullet and powder seated all the way down. You want a consistent seating of the bullet. You also want to keep it good and clean. Many of muzzle loaders turned to garbage from lack of cleaning.I have been debating on buying a gun for a while now, like I mentioned before, due to my time being way more limited than I expected. I decided to kill two birds with one stone. went and bought a muzzleloader tonight at a "black friday" sale. It's a CVA Optima V2. I've never even handled a muzzy before so I'm pretty excited to get out and shoot it tomorrow.

Excellent. That always helps. Enjoy it Jake. Thanks for the advice! I have a friend who is a BP freak, he actually talked me into going this route, so I'm hoping he can help shorten the learning curve for me as far as use and maintenance goes.
And watch the recoil when I was younger my dad took each kid and let them shoot the muzzy with 150gr pellets and sabot it had a scope on it and everyone of us had scope eye from handling it more like a 22 or a shot gunI have been debating on buying a gun for a while now, like I mentioned before, due to my time being way more limited than I expected. Took the iron to the range yesterday. The muzzle loader, Remington Genesis, is dead on at 100 yards. I decked around a little and tried adding another 10 grains to the load and now, from 50 yards to 150 yards there is only about 3 inches of drop, right down the middle. I've owned this gun for probably 6 or 7 years and still haven't taken a deer with it. I plan to change that this year.
I also ran a few through the 870 to confirm the scope is still on at 100. Last year, I picked up a rifled iron sight barrel for it but couldn't find d a slug it liked. Yesterday, after reading another thread, I tried the brenneke ko's. It likes those. My buddy had a couple magnum brenneke's, I the ink they were called rotwhille's... ?... the gun liked them, but I didnt. My shoulder is still sore after firing three of them.
Just to make sure I have plenty of choices, I also took out the super redhawk. I put a scope on it and zeroed it at 50. It's actually pretty much driving tacks at 50, 5 shots, with holes touching each other.
