This year I will own that... I saw plenty of deer during archery season. I've been up to my eyelids in deer the last couple years. I've explained before what has changed for me, I have a good deal of property all to myself and we simply do not shoot deer there. It's made a difference, I have no doubt. I have yet to figure out why I had such a poor gun season. Honestly I have no idea I can't even blame it on pressure as there was very little on any of the ground I was hunting. Just weird. Most everyone I've spoken with had similar seasons, even the fellas that were walking and driving.

But the only time you saw deer is when you did a push to Mason.... They're there, just hunkered down from all the shooting they hear from outlying areas.... They're not coming out unless you boot them in the ass.... They know what happens when they move during gun season....

Like the doe that was bedded 20 feet from Jeff and me while we discussed where he should go watch?

We've proved that the last 4-5 years Sam lol.... If you were to climb a stand down there at the orchard during gun season you'd think it was a barren wasteland.... But with a bunch of guys moving them they're being tagged on other properties as well....

Means the deer are still being deer at night.

Yep, but with less folks doing the deer drives they aren't moving like they were.... Everyone sits in their blinds and comfortable treestands and fewer folks are movin around and less deer are being bumped....

I'll agree with that. I can't even take the guys into doing drives...I'm gonna make them. Perks of being in charge, lol.

Also, I've come too the realization that folks complain about deer #'s during gun season are the same that see decent #'s during archery season.... Same areas, different scenarios....
I lived the tale of two seasons. Best first half of November I've had ever maybe, one of the worst gun seasons.

Ok Sunday morning I wear checking cameras replacing batteries, put out corn and found 2 brand new scrapes with rubs near them. Does this mean anything

Go back 28-30 days. What was happening? Start of the rut? Good rut action in your area? Generally any does which did not get bred or young does coming into estrous for the first time will start the "second rut". Bucks will start making scrapes again and rubs again while waiting for it to heat up. I'd say hunt them like you would the last week in October or first week in November. They will check them and be chasing again. Maybe not as hard, but there will be some rut activity.

I did a little driving around at prime time this evening. I saw deer in several fields. They have a calendar. I'm sure they do. There wasn't enough pressure in my area to make them lay down all week.

Sounds good, we didn't see much rut activity but it may have been when I wasn't there, let's hope there is some action during the in weekend when we are back out there

I'm ready for some freezer filling, but don't think I'm going to wack a doe just yet.

I ventured out for the final hour of light on Sunday. Sure enough, doe popped out, crooked tail, looking worn down and she was all alone. Kept looking behind her. Had to be a buck in there but he never came out.

Like Hicks said, I gotta stick with same style of hunting as I've done all November. It's still happening, just gotta stay confident and be there for it

I agree gordo, i watched 2 small bucks sparring briefly after one of them chased a young doe around yesterday. I'd say she was probably born this spring and is just now coming into heat. The second rut is real and I think the young ones are just starting to pop
