I have to work this entire weekend and I've been pretty down about it. I just went up to Taco Bell a little while ago and the little older lady working the register looked troubled...I then noticed she didn't have any hair. As she looked up at me I could she that she had tears in her eyes. I asked her if she was ok as it was truly heart breaking to see. She bursts into tears and tells me that she just found out someone had stolen a check from her that was for her treatment.
Manager comes out and tries to apologize for this stranger sharing this info with me. I was pretty pissed and asked the manager if I could have a moment with this lady, Francis. Francis and I had a moment...the smell of onion was strong in Taco Bell today. I made a donation to her, I couldn't afford to replace the full amount, but I did my part. After I placed my order the manager tried to pay for my meal, I denied the offer and had them start a donation can with that money being the first drop in the bucket.
When I was leaving I remembered I had a Cabela's gift card in my truck. I took it back into her and two younger kids were hugging her...out came the onions again. I gave her the gift card and told her to order the warmest hat she could find and left.
I'm not sharing this because I want an atta boy. I'm sharing this because life is good folks. No matter how bad it sucks, you gotta find the good things and grab ahold of them. Even if you have to turn a terrible thing into something good.
Slow down this holiday season, take time to say hello to a stranger. You don't know what they are going through. Life is good, it's a lot better when change the way you look at it.
