Ran out to Illinois this past week-end to shed hunt and do some work... Put on a lot of miles shed hunting and scouting only to find 3 sheds and 2 dead bucks... Both bucks were on the farm I hunt, with one being a very nice 8 (120ish) that had a lot of potential and the other being a funky rack with no potential. Who knows what killed them. Trip was saved by getting some ladder stands moved and a new one put up in a great area. This stand needed some major chainsaw work to make it work. So now the area has time to calm down till Nov. Didn't see any bucks but everyone says they are still holding out there...

Was wondering how things went out here for ya Rich.... Glad you got stuff accomplished and got plenty of exercise.....

"J" Definitely got plenty of exercise between moving stands and walking... We got there Thurs. around 3 Pm. and even though we just drove 18 hours straight through we changed quick and hit the woods till dark.. Around 9 Pm my head hit the pillow and it was lights out. Guess I'm like you when it comes to finding sheds, they don't come often... I thought we'd find more. We also put some cameras out, so I'll have something to look forward to if I go back out in Aug-Sept. Only buck we saw was coming back through Ohio around Zanesville... He still had both sides..

Small world Rich! Ric and I were born in Zanesville and only grew up less than an hour away.

I've walked quite a bit this year and haven't found anything. Some of these guys are luckier than a sucked dick when It comes to sheds lol. They do put miles in tho crazy how many they find every year. I'm usually good for 2or3 that's it.

I walked 24 miles in the last 3 days and picked up 15. You can't just walk anywhere. There are things to look for and certain places to be. Good luck.

This is mostly my problem. Even though I have permission to walk many of the larger farms in my area there is just TOO many pockets of other private property interspersed around them that I can't get access too. Many are of the antihunting/transplanted city folk variety or have somebody else already shed hunting on them. Throw in the fact our deer/buck numbers being way down and me having mostly just 1 day to walk each week sure doesn't help either.

I have a few hours of vacation coming up this weekend I hope can get me out some. I totally agree with your last sentence too Tay.

Wow!!!! Congrats to your buddy! He must have had a lot of free time! Other than access to great spots, that comes in a close second.... :smiley_coolpeace:

It's amazing how many sets he found TOO! Big ones at that!:smiley_clap:

He works construction so hes off winters. He is a very likeable guy and gets to shed hunt a lot of ground. His gal has many farmers in the family. All of them totes in the picture are full of sheds. He has so many it aint funny.

Had I known you'd like TOO take a ride, you would have been more than welcome to tag along for the ride... We are in Mount Sterling Illinois. The farm I hunt is just South of Pittsfield, Illinois... I guess the main trick to finding sheds is to concentrate on food sources. Which are slim to none out there right now. Which means the deer are spread out. We were walking trails really checking areas that crossed fences, crossed over ditches etc. I guess they are still holding out there as we received a pic earlier in the week with 4 bucks holding both sides yet..
