We had our first Tball practice (age 5) for our combined team of boys and girls this past Weds. What a hoot! No one could catch, they barely can throw with accuracy, but a couple of the boys can hit pretty good off the tee. I was recruited to be assistant coach so I told them I would be available. My daughter is playing so I'll be at most practices and games anyways. Let my second baseball career begin....this time as Dad and coach.

Good luck! As long as they have fun that's all that matters.

Busy baseball weekend for me. We hosted Linsly Academy (WVa) on Saturday. It was an ass beating. They thumped us 13-1. They've got kids from all over the place. Two from the Bahamas that are studs.
Let's put it this way, they scored 13 runs and we only walked one hitter and didn't make an error. They had 6 doubles, 2 triples, and a homer. Can you say "launching pad"? Lol

My boys, Kody and Klay, opened up their 9 & 10 year old season on Saturday as well. They lost 4-3 but played well. Kody catches and Klay plays second. Kody had one play at the plate where he threw his shin guard in front of the plate to block a slide and tagged the kid out. Nice! He's not a real aggressive kid so seeing him stick his nose into someone else made me happy.

Hard to beat a team that recruits in high school!

Had our first practice last night despite a near flooded field! We threw some and hit in the cage. All I have to say about that Voodoo Mike is Holy Shit! I was straight lacing the ball! I can't tell you how good it feels to pick a bat up after 7 months and make cuts like I spent the winter in the cage! I'm hitting 3rd in the lineup this year and my buddy is hitting 4th. He's a big lad, so we're hoping our own version of the Bash Brothers will be a force to be reckoned with!

Another flippin rainout!!! What a wasted season...
We host Weirton, WVa tomorrow. Then we finishe up league play with Buckeye Local, Bellaire, and St Clairsville twice. They are all make up games.
Next week starts our sectionals. There are 11 teams in our sectional and we earned a 4 seed. we play the winner of Carrollton and Minerva. If we get past that we play, more than likely, Steubenville. They are our number one rivalry. We hate them, they hate us. Last year they beat us in the OVAC Finals, but we turned around a week later and knocked them out of the sectionals when it really counted. I hope we get a crack at them. I'd love for us to be their only loss.

The seeds are as follows:
1. Steubenville 15-0
2. Richmond Edison 12-3
3. Cambridge 11-4
4. Indian Creek 9-5
5. Minerva 9-5
7. Meadowbrook 6-9
8. East Liverpool 4-9
9. Harrison central 3-10
10. Beaver Local 2-10
11. Carrollton 1-14

Yea this rain is just plain ridiculous, Mike.... I'm surprised you guys have been as many games as you have. Good luck in the sectionals and kick some Steubenville ass!

Bad week.... we lost to Buckeye Local 5-3 and Bellaire 3-0. Our offense has disappeared! Actually, we are putting the ball in play, but it's right at someone. The bad part is the hitters are getting frustrated because of it and now they're pressing. Part of being a baseball coach is also bieng a mental coach.
We had a DH scheduled with St Clairsville today which, here's a shocker, was rained out for the second time.

My two boys did manage to get their game in today though. My 9 year old got to pitch for the first time and put in a 1, 2, 3 inning. He struck out the second hitter in between 2 ground outs. I'm just happy he was throwing strikes. It was pretty cool having Klay on the mound and my 10 year old Kody behind the plate.
On offense Klay drove in a run on a ground out to 2nd. Kody needs to get more aggressive at the plate and swing the stinkin' bat!

We got back on track last night winning in 8 innings over Toronto 6-5. It was a fantastic game to watch. We nabbed two of their guys at the plate with great throws from our CF and RF. Our relief pitcher hit a solo homer in the top of the 8th to give us the lead and we were able to hold on. We are now 10-8 which is much better than I thought we'd be this year.
Today we play Minerva in the opening round of the sectional.

We got past Minerva 12-8. It was a back and forth battle early then we finally pulled away.
It should've never been that high scoring on their end but the ump missed a helluva game behind the plate and was squeezing the zone forcing lots of fat pitches.

Anyway... We advance to play cross town rival Steubenville on Friday. They have 1 loss on the season. It's gonna be a tough one.

My boys team Is 6~0. He's playing coach pitch and there is not a team in the league that can keep up with them. All games have been called by the 10 run rule. They have some really talented kids that take it very serious. My girl is playing tball and is really having fun. Good times watching them take The field for sure!

Good luck Mike!

We have our first game this Sunday weather permitting. Had a scrimmage this past Sunday and it felt like I'd never walked off the field! I'm ready to prove that even as an "old man" in this league, I can still play ball and you gotta fear the bat!!!

I threw batting practice to eleven 5-6 year olds last night. Boy, it hurts to throw so slow and gentle. I actually lack control being that tentative.
Our first game is next Thursday.
