Funny you would post this Dave. I managed to get 13 real nice ones yesterday. (The damn coons usually get them first) My landowner and Joy had neither tried them until yesterday. Both said they were real good and agreed the flavor is somewhere between a banana and a kiwi.

It is real hard to beat wildlife to them. Coons told me they were ready. Been hearing the fights all week.
This isn't something I normally wait for. The season for them is long but you only have a couple of days to get them ripe. They don't last long.
Soft is the key. They are delicious on vanilla wafers!

This Miami Univ tree report on page 39 considers the pawpaw tree a undesirable tree or weed tree and should be removed. No wonder I've never seen any.
On another note I see no buckeye tree here either. There was was one buckeye tree at the corner of my property when I bought the farm but it only lasted couple years and died.

Every animal in the woods eats them, humans can easily eat them. They taste and smell great. The big leaves are good looking. I say fugg them idiots! This tree seems like a great tree to have around. It does have a root system that sprouts, maybe that's what they are referring to.
Pretty cool! Just found out about them this year. The ones we have spotted are high in the trees and we have to wait for them to drop. Another spot the guy says he can reach them. I agree Dave that the paw paw tree is pretty damn cool!
Paw paw trees have flexible trunks. Bend it over and get you some. (No pun intended):smiley_coolpeace:
Or just give them a fist bump. Don't shake the hell out of it, just give it a little bump.
BTW, the homemade ice cream was stupid good. Really fresh tasting.
