Been a rough year here for locating any toms to hunt. Haven’t seen the first one. Took my daughter out and called a Jake in to ten yards. It was her first turkey experience hearing one gobble in her face. She was excited. Let him walk to hopefully survive to next year. Two jakes got killed opening morning on same property. I’ve been watching a bearded hen for the third year by the house now so I decided it was time to go after her. She was out in the field again yesterday and after hearing no gobbles that morning I set up on her. Two other guys were in woods calling like crazy and she came right to me. She had a 6-7” beard and feathers in perfect condition. I have mixed feelings about shooting her but it will be the only one I ever shot and will be a full body mount in the house. I’m not buying another tag. I wish they would make some of the west central Ohio counties one bird only. There were also a group of 8 hens
so the population should be fine.

Congrats bud. That'll make a cool mount.

Gobbled good on the limb and went quiet when they flew down. Was a beautiful morning for sure!

Congratulations Aaron! Great bird!

I had one heck of a fun hunt this morning. A guy called me last night to see if he could tag along, so of course I agreed. We went into an area where birds have been roosting, one particularly gobble happy bird. Scott set up 100 yards or so from me. I found a comfortable place to sit probably 75 yards from the loud mouthed gobbler. Much to my surprise, there were three other long beards roosted directly above me! I must have heard several hundred gobbles while they were in the tree and was able to watch the show from my hiding spot. Three of those birds were well in range while they sat on their limbs. All pitched the wrong way of course. So then I hear another gobbler coming from behind me but he eventually went off in another direction too. I started cutting just to make them gobble as they wandered off, which got a jake excited. He flew up from the field where Scott was watching him strut to a tree limb maybe 25 feet above me. LOL Eventually he pitched down and went off with the other birds. Shortly after, all was quiet, but what a fun hunt! And the best part... I can go do it again tomorrow!

Gonna try an afternoon hunt today, not real sure what to expect. I scouted a public spot last week and found what looks to be a good spot atop a ridge at the convergence of 3 logging roads. There’s a spot that looks to be an obvious dusting area with a bunch tracks strewn about around it as well. Lots of good potential roosting trees in the area also. I plan on setting up overlooking those logging roads and maybe set a hen decoy out and see what happens. Like I said, not real sure what to expect but it beats sitting on the couch on a day like today lol

Thanks all. Now I know why Tyler keeps asking how my hunts are and when I give him the details he seems to get a big kick out of my failures, the first thing he says is "Lead is cheap" lol, when I share my hunts....
Ive spent enough lead this year that would have filled 2yrs worth of tags and have 1 bird to show for it....LMAO. But this has been my most productive year at having Long Beards in killing distance..... The older I get the worse I shoot and my eyesight follows.... But its still a ton of fun and Im hoping my boy will catch the itch sometime soon.. If anybody is looking to add a KILLER call to their vest you best get with Chad and put a Killer Sasquatch Custom Pot and striker in your vest.....
