Same Chuck. I killed a doe @ 265 yards two seasons ago. Right in the boiler room too.

Thanks for confirming, I am not confident in my rig to shoot that far. Lack of practice with it. I rely on it and trust it to 150, but I always seem to be shooting targets and working with a centerfire for groundhogs and trying to bust my first yote too. Plan on changing that prior to next season, with more time coming in retirement.

I think it was luck, although I did map the field for yardage and did my ballistic homework.

Since a picture is worth a thousand words, a video must be worth a million.
I posted these last year also, but seems applicable again.
Here are 2 blood trails from a Barnes 290 TMZ from 2 does I shot one afternoon last gun season. Both were quartering away and the bullet stopped in the off shoulder. I can't even image what the trail would have been with an exit hole.

I'll let you decide if they would be worth a try.....

I have been thinking of switching to these as I’m sick of the crappy powerbelts. How many grains of powder are you pushing them with?

I switched and can tell you I will be purchasing the “EZ” loaders for the CVA. Broke a starter last year trying to get them in the barrel. Haven’t tried them in my TC yet.

100 grains/2 pellets of pyro. I also plan to make the switch to BlackHorn this year.

Thanks for bumping this to remind me to get on it!

No problem lol. Thanks for the info, I’ve been seriously considering switching to the blackhorn as well. One thing I’ve read about the blackhorn is that you’ll also need to switch to actual 209 shotgun primers instead of the ones that are made for MLs as it requires a hotter primer to ignite and get a cleaner burn. I have an older CVA Wolf and they don’t make an upgraded breech plug for it that’s recommended for use with the blackhorn but all indications are that the stock plug that comes with it will work also

Been seriously thinking about making the switch as well, might you around this summer with it to see how it compares to the triple 7.
Ohio Sam been using it for a while and really likes it.

Sounds like a plan J, would be cool to do some shooting and compare notes. I’m planning on messing around with it this summer so I don’t have to worry about screwing with it once now season gets in full swing lol. From everything I’ve seen/read it seems like the blackhorn/Barnes combo is as good as it gets for ML deer loads

I shoot 100 grains of pyro.
Dave's comment is correct. The only issue I have heard about with TMZs is they can be hard to push down in certain brand guns, especially with a fouled barrel.
The 'EZs' seem to be the answer here. I think their sabot is just a tad smaller diameter, but I beleive the bullet is the same.
I have an older Omega, and I can be a bitch to load them when fouled.

Google 'Barnes TMZ sabots vs EZ' and read away!

Awesome, thanks! I’m wondering if some of that would be alleviated by using the blackhorn since it supposedly burns cleaner? Will be interesting to see
