I am trying to get some input on Dillon State Park area. Is the state land around that worth bow hunting. I’ve lived in Ohio for 2 years now and having a lot of problems trying to find property to hunt around me. I had a guy at work told me to try that area. I’ve hunted Wayne National down in pedro area before but that’s to far for me to go. Any input would help

Thanks
Joe

I’ve not hunted that area for 25 years. A friends family farm adjoined Dillon, right next to the gun range. It was fantastic back then. That farm has since been sold All the property they hunted in that area has been leased or sold also. Very tough area to hunt these days without writing a check, apparently.

I have been hunting dillon for the last couple of years with limited success. Granted we only go down for a 4 day weekend. From what I've seen if you like hunting open hardwoods then this is not the place for you. Also if you plan on hunting big hills and valleys once again it's not the place for that.
The state typically leases out a few of the fields in the park for farming and these can be fairly productive if there when you go. I hunt on both sides of the lake and all the terrain is typically the same. There are several gravel roads that go through the forest so access is fairly easy( it's not like you can hike in two miles to an undisturbed spot.)
Last year I shot an 8pt and the year before that a guy in our group shot a nice size doe.

I hunted it a few times. We ran into a lot of out of staters around rut. Early season seemed less pressured. It seemed like all the edges from private to public was the best places. ehd hit a year there were dead deer all over. That was 8 yrs ago havnt been back. Good luck.

I've scouted it some. I have 1 or 2 spots that I will hunt in there this year. It has roads and such ALL through it. So, getting away from the other hunters will be tricky to say the least. My expectations are low.
