Wool socks

Not sure how or why I went back to cotton socks for a while. But my boots stink again and my feet itch! To the trash they go and it’s time to get back into the wool socks. I think it was Jesse that learned this a few years back.

Gonna give these a try first, seem to be cheaper then the ones I used to wear. I know $20 a pair seems excessive, but I can’t begin to explain the other troubles I already fight with my feet. So a $40 investment to see if I like them is worth it to me.

I had a $50 gift card to Duluth Trading Co. Never been there or know much about them except their stuff is pretty expensive for me. Just went on their website and found 3 pair of Merino wool socks and another pair of socks. Total was $55 after tax. Cost me $5 shipped toy door. We will see how I like them. The 3 pair of Merino were different weights and one was with copper. We shall see.

Merino is good shit. I've heard nothing but good things about the smartwool socks, especially from guys fighting wildfires out west. If they can handle those grueling conditions, your stanky knome feet should be a walk in the park.

This years ground conditions have my feet living in muck boots, my feet ain’t happy.

If you wear any sort of non-breathable rubber or neoprene boot, do yourself a favor and get you a pair of bama socks. We wear rubber boots on the boat in Alaska all day, and your feet will stay absolutely dry with these things. I wear them with a light poly blend sock, and boots about a size to a size and a half bigger. Couldn't be more comfortable, even in warm weather.

I'm a believer in quality wool socks. from expedition weight otc boot socks to thin dress socks and everything in between, in terms of comfort and durability, Smartwool socks have done the best for me. I have not worn cotton socks for well over 20 years. sometimes you can find great deals on factory seconds at Sierra Trading Post.com.

Well, I wore my first pair yesterday and forgot the rest in the truck...wearing them again as they were still fine. We will see how they fair after a two day run. Something I wouldn’t even consider with a cotton sock! Those things are usually stiffer then new carhartts after ones days use.

I went 100% wool & wool blend a few years back and am so glad I did! I have a few pairs of Darn Toughs and some Wool IQs, which have been my favorite so far. Probably tough keeping troll feet comfortable, so I hope you find a remedy Giles!

Funny that Giles posted this as I just bought a pair of Darn Tough to see how they do in prep for AZ. I've always wore cotton and don't have a problem with foot sweat but 2 weeks in remote country hunting with temps swinging from 40 to 70 each day got me thinking about the properties of wool. How do you like them as compared to others? What made the $21 per pair pill easier to swallow was the unconditional lifetime guarantee.

I would advise against cotton socks on that hunt out west. If you get blisters, you're going to be freakin miserable. Best bet is probably gonna be a thin polyester or polypropylene liner sock to wick the moisture away, with a light to medium-weight merino wool or wool blend sock overtop.
