Wanna talk crazy?

Like many of you, I have considered various scenarios. Since I have been out working in the oil/gas industry, a extra step has had to be factored in... Getting home.

From the NE corner of Ohio, I have an average of 165 mile drive 1 way across the Ohio river to SW PA. I worry about what it would take just to get home in the event of a “911” situation that pops on us with no warning so to speak. I
Worry about getting across the River, traffic on the roads like rt 79 around Pittsburgh or rt 80 around Youngstown. What if there’s a EMP and I have to walk the 165 miles. Steal a horse? Or a Schwin?
Walking would take days...
I have always carried a “road trip/go bag” when traveling based on seasons.

I know where I was the morning of 9-11.
Downtown Cleveland in a ceo’s office for a
meeting. Getting out of Cleveland was a little stressful but not to bad...That was only a 1 hour from home.

Nobody has mentioned EMP or attack on the grid yet. Maybe I need to add some gas can racks to the CJ5. . . . And a trailer for supplies. 5 people and a dog aren't going to fit very well, let alone supplies.

Are you suggesting that they could shut off all these newer vehicles? Or at least track them? I mean everyone talks shit about Government Motors, but these fords are backing trailers without people.

I mearly suggest another scenario. In the event of an EMP, most things electronic would be down.
Many planning to drive to their place of shelter with 1/2 a ton of supplies would be screwed. Getting out of a large city on foot with loved ones could be a nightmare when you had always planned on driving out.

I read a study a while back that was done by the commission on automobiles and trucks where they exposed a wide range of vehicles to high emp. Both running and not running vehicles. All of the one's that were off at the time displayed no impact. Of the ones that were running most displayed minor annoyance issues like dash lights flickering or intermittent window controller issues. Very few actually turned off and the ones that did could usually be restarted. The few that couldn't needed to have the battery disconnected and reconnected and they started. Only one vehicle was dead and needed repairs to which they didn't note what was broke. They said that more vehicles would be damaged by crashing due to the momentsry loss of power or distraction by blinking lights than the EMP itself.

They did however note that the fuel supply to include refineries, transport, and POS stations would likely be severely impacted by damage to their own equipment and the loss of power.

I'm thinking I might forego a vehicular evacuation and instead jump in the boat or canoe. I figure I could sustain myself in the swamps far far away from most people for quite a while. Plenty of fish and red meat, cattails for some occasional dietary fiber, and water all around. Aside from being obliterated by mosquitoes in the summer, or potential difficulty finding shelter in the dead of winter... Tell me where this approach is vulnerable.

That sounds like an option. My thinking is have more than one option Incase one doesn’t pan out.

I'm stealing a buddies boat and taking over PIB. Once I'm the ruler, and the island fully secure, I'll unearth my arsenal & cannons from Perry's Caves and refortify Perry's Monument.

Plenty of fresh water, fish, booze and views a far to be able to intercept any incoming boats. Of course, my 3 sons need to be of age to be able to help haul gear, shoot straight, and pillage. I'll even save em a few hung over college girls or a bachelorette party goers in case we are on that island for a decent amount of time.
