I have hills so I might stick with 57s. I’m going to ask around anyway though.Pros:
Bigger rock.
Doesn’t hold water as easy.
Doesn’t stick in your tires.
Cons:
Harder on tires.
Takes a while to pack, so it makes it hard for kids to ride bikes and such.
These are my personal experiences, no science to back anything up. I will also add that my driveway is a 1/4 mile and just about flat. With how long they take to pack, I could see it becoming an issue if you have a steep hill in your driveway. I would think they would roll and create a chatter. Once again, I’m just guessing. Not even experience to back that theory up. For us, 72s is the perfect way to go.
How long is your driveway, Dave?We used to do that and went with 72s. Really helped with rock chips on my truck and it has held up better. Being a shared driveway and us having active kids, it gets a ton of traffic. With 57s we had to do the driveway twice a year. Now we do it once in the spring and only add gravel every other year.
What’re you guys getting your gravel for per ton? Down here I’m getting quotes for $37 a ton for 57’s with a $140 delivery charge. Haven’t pulled that trigger yet.
