Here is the only the only thing that bothers me.

There was no plan. Ok maybe I get that. Still a failure but I get it. What is pissing me off is there is still NO PLAN. Shutting down the economy, sending an entire country home, tens of million of jobs lost, is not a fucking plan. That's the reaction of being unprepared without a plan. Thats what you do to buy time so that you can ramp up A PLAN.

Lots of talk about "flattening the curve" to get the cases below the available medical capacity line. Yet NOTHING is being done with reasonable speed to raise that available medical capacity line. The higher that line the more cases we can handle, thus the quicker we can get this shit over with. I haven't seen a single commitment date for treatment trials, a vaccine, opening businesses, ending quarantine, delivery of ventilators, solving PPE shortages, meeting test demand, expansion of Hospital space to handle the next rise in cases when we open everything back up.

They still don't have a damn plan. The longer this drags out the deeper this country is going to spiral into a recession and eventual depression. From that will likely spur a revolution. Eventually people are going to look at the government and say "fuck you buddy"

Is anybody in charge of get n a plan

seems to me that the people (in this country) in charge of getting/having "a plan" have had years, perhaps decades, to prepare for this TOTALLY FORESEEABLE pandemic. are they that incompetent or are they treasonous? either way, there heads ought to be under the guillotine right now for their abject failure to do their fucking jobs.

Yeah, that's true @Jamie. It's kinda like how we know there will eventually be another solar flare like the Carrington Event but we haven't done much of anything to prepare for that either.

Companies can only retool so fast. Vaccine research happens daily. Always has. They are learning daily. Many companies are now making masks. Ventilators seems to be taking longer. They've named additional places to be used as overflow/makeshift hospitals if needed.

I understand your point. This is being reactive rather than proactive. But, stuff is happening. Just not as fast as the virus was picking up speed. Sounds like it is slowing and we are still reacting and doing stuff.

The economy, companies, and people's livelihoods don't have months to wait for the bloat of American corporations to churn to action. If Russia landed troops on the beaches of California I assure you a government-induced industrial response would not be this slow. I realize things take time. What I'm bothered by is they are not committing to a specific time on anything. IMO they're feeding the public a line of bullshit. First it's two weeks, then its the end of April, then what, end if May and so on and so on. Without commitments there is no accountability, without accountability, continued failure is certain. Every day that goes by simply makes this a bigger and bigger failure. We either need to come up with treatments within a reasonable amount of time and get the economy back open, or accept that lots of people will die and get it over with. The destruction of our economy, people's careers, retirement funds, children future college funds, and the generations of impact isn't worth a 2-3% casualty number. Sorry. Sometimes you just have to accept casualties and hit the damn beach. We can't do more damage to the country trying to prevent it than if we just accepted it.

Very well said, Joe. This is exactly where I am at this point. Im sick of the whinging, sick of the rules, sick of the government overreach all with no plan on how to get back up and running. And this is with my life having been pretty much left intact. I have to work from home and abide by questionable rules on where, when and how I shop. Not really that bad. But I am not willing to see those rules and restrictions go on any longer than absolutely necessary.

But I can see where its all going unless we say "Enough!". Im 50 years old, fat, and relatively unhealthy. If I get this thing its likely to hurt me pretty bad. The odds are still on my side of course and that would be a risk I'm willing to take to prevent what I see coming down the road. I still see the final mortality rate being less than 1%.

As a person responsible for making those exact plans for a 2bn dollar corporation i'd caution against that line of thinking. Prior to an event it's a really big rock to push up a mountain to get those above you to listen. I mean hell, we're in the midst of the pandemic and we still have people that don't believe it exists. It's even worse when you're trying to plan and prepare for a hypothetical event. The best we can do is have plans on paper and the right people identified, but getting the individuals in charge to actually spend money on real preparations is another story. Most would rather spend it to make more money, or not spend it at all and shore up their portfolio. I can jump up and down and scream until the cows come home but at the end of the day putting action to a plan is not my call.

If my COO would have asked me in December which one was the biggest threat, a tornado hitting our Kansas Office, or a global pandemic, I would have gone with the Tornado 100 out of 100 times.

CNN was snooping around this weekend wanting to do a story on Coronavirus in Appalachia. If I there's negative in all of this, which there is, many of them, it'll be urban dispersal. Our way of life here in the country is soon to be under attack.

They didn't actually come here. I mean, who'd volunteer to come to this God forsaken shithole?!?

Speaking of appalacia and CNN. I watched Anderson cooper get straight decked when that mine collapsed in WV 10 years ago. Media was asked to stage away from the church that all the families were in awaiting news. As the family came out of the church the media swarmed them. He shoved a mic in some dudes face and didn't even get the word "Anderson" out before he caught a rocket of a right jab from two steps above by some bearded fella. I saw it live and have never been able to find the video.

I don't envy your job, @Jackalope. Please continue doing what your doing and keep up the good work.

Given that your profession requires you to advise a large corporation (or is it corporations?) on how to plan and respond, I'm looking forward to hearing your continued insights into all this as it all plays out for the average American over what I'm now reading will go on for the next 18 months in some way shape or form.

its ok if you don't agree with me, but that is a lousy analogy. it doesn't matter if we have another Carrington event. that is effectively game over for all life on earth and nothing we can do to prevent it, slow it down or protect ourselves from that. even if we do nothing about Covid19, it isn't going to eradicate humanity. we can be, and should have been, prepared, at least a little, for a viral outbreak like this on every level of government from the county level to federal. Apathy by the people in charge of monitoring these things made it worse than it had to be. the most glaring example of this is not having enough PPE for front line people. then straight up lying to people and telling them that wearing a mask won't help them, so don't bother. now wearing a mask is required in some localities. the folks in charge of this stuff are dancing as fast as they can now to save face and get this under control.

Joe can do his job perfectly, but if it isn't within his authority to implement a plan, and the powers that be ignore his proposed plan, then we wind up where we are today.

Now Trump wants to fire Dr. Fauci - ho lee shit
If you ain't with me, your against me. While I cringe sometimes at the rate and style he gets rid of people, it works for him. I can't fault anyone for demanding 100% loyalty. Too many times we see these people say something that contradicts his message or makes him look bad. Either get on board or get the fugg off

The guys been in the job since the Reagan era? Maybe time for him too retire and some new blood brought in. Seems this happened on his watch, didn’t it? Was he contributing factor for some of the reason they were so ill prepared?
