I doubt the state put it in... Esp since they have been closing boat ramps etc. due to COVID 19... due to cutbacks of workers...Plus I would have noticed the increased activity in the area... I bump into the park rangers all the time so I will find out...

Hey no matter whether it's a spike or a booner... Dave is only interested in one thing...

Just went to work on a swimming pool and the customer had a limb break off an apple tree loaded with apples, so I picked 2 bushel baskets so I'll hike up that trail with some and put a camera out.....

Made a quick hike to the top of the hill with 2 back packs of apples... Found some what of a trail and dumped apples and setup a trail cam... Walking out I bumped into a nice 6 point... Nothing I would shoot but was still nice to see a buck...

I’d say that is going to be a hunt able spot in very short order. Lol
Brock... That's maybe a 100 yds off that quad trail and I only hung a cam and put apples there to try and see if there's anything around that might tickle my fancy... If there is I'll find a better spot to hang a stand...

Also, you have a “couple thousand” acres of state land that no one else hunts? I find that incredibly hard to believe. Please share this location with your fellow TOO brethren so that we can all enjoy this hunting preserve. Lol

@Fletch , you do know it’s illegal to bait on public hunting land right?
Well.... Since this is in the state of NEW JERSEY it is 110% legal... Also I'm not one to deer hunt over bait and this is just to see what is around... As noted earlier IF I hunt stand will be elsewhere with no bait... Not carrying bait up that hill more than one more time....But thanks for the heads up on Ohio laws...

Sorry dude, forgot you were in NJ. Also that probably explains the lack of other hunters. None of this would be real in Ohio. Lol

Hell... Why not.... Jump on Rte 80 and head East, after crossing through Pa. Take Rte 94 North to intersection of 517 North take that until your about a mile from New York... You'll start seeing State Forest signs where Appalachian Train crosses... You have arrived... Good motel close by would be Appalachian Motel... Great restaurant would be Atlantic Manor... Good Enough???:eek::eek:. On a serious note: You wanna hunt bears??? I'll show you where to hunt...

So it's only been 2 days since I put the camera out but since I bought some corn and got more apples I figured what the hell I need an EKG.... So I went up that freaking hill and dumped more goodies and pulled the sd card.... Got home and to my amazement I had like 7 bucks on the camera... Nothing great or that I would shoot, even in Jersey... But gotta be a bigger one around... First pic is some old fart... LOL... Stealth cam has to go for a Moutrie later this week... Garbage pics...

First and last pic of the bucks (don’t know if it’s the same buck) show a pretty good one for Jersey. All the others would get a pass but that one is worth taking a look at.
He would have gotten shot in a heart beat years ago... LOL... For me to get all those pics in 2 days I bet there's better in there... Some are hard horned already...

So since I wasn't happy with the Stealth cams pics I ran up the hill to swap it out today.... Now I have a Primos ( which is hit or miss ), mainly it's a decoy camera if someone happens by... Other cam is a brand new Moultrie which I hung about 10 ft up... I scattered about 30 lbs of corn with the apples yesterday and most of it was gone... When I went to leave I wanted to skirt the area and look for a possible tree to hang a stand in... I went about 30 yds into this thick shit and guess what stands up??? One of my black friends... He must have been laying there all the time I was fooling around with the cams... As I continued along he just kept in front of me... Not big, maybe 200 lbs... Big enough I guess to put a hurt on ya... Thought for sure he'd be on the cam, but nope...

Must be nice to have high standards [emoji23]. I get it, as we get older and kill bigger deer our standards go up.

For the record I goofed up 3 years ago and killed a 150” 8pt. Most of our good deer are from 120-135. Yes there is bigger but would most likely go hungry waiting. I’ve done the trophy hunting, was exciting but not fun. Most of my deer mounted, the story far exceeds the size of the antlers. Isn’t that what it’s really about in the big picture?

I will be watching this thread as it’s much more rewarding when the odds are against you and you make it happen. Good luck in your quest.

Oh yeah....FUCK A BEAR, damn overgrown coons!

High Standards???? Where does it come from or why does it happen???? That's a good question... I'm one that loves being in the woods and love my venison so why not fill that tag when the chance presents it self and be happy???? Esp. in a state that has such liberal limits... Hell if I wanted and got the chance I could kill several of those bucks LEGALLY... But if I get one decent one I'll be happy, because as you said the story behind each and every harvest is what we do it for... Hell even the prep work is memorable, take for example yesterday, just the close up encounter with yogi, knowing now that he was near by all the time while I was there will be etched in my mind forever... And yes they are a royal pain in the ass... I can't go in the woods without bumping into them... In the end I guess Im just fortunate and happy that at 70 ( in Nov. ) I'm still able to do what I love.... Thanks for the well wishes and GOOD LUCK down South and out West...

So..... Went to check cams and take some corn in.... Every kernal of corn and ever apple was gone.... Didn't take long for the word to get out that there were free handouts and the bears moved in.... Had numerous bears on cam and once they showed up deer were non existent... Had 2 sows on camera, one with 2 cubs and one with 3 Cubs... The 3 Cubs are this year's and will be a large pain in the ass to be in the woods with as they are curious, and may come up your tree to see what you are.... Mommy ain't gonna like when you kick one.... Couple hard to tell what they were... One I'd guess is a young boar... Time to stop with the apples and corn.... It's state land so there's no hunting of bears... If people only knew how many bears there were in this state, THEY WOULD SHIT...
