I hope I didn't come across wrong, as it was the furthest thing from my mind that you were comming across as a bad ass... Just trying to help... Today's crossbows are like shooting a rifle even beyond 50 yds, not that I would shoot that far... Hunting public land or any land for that matter stick to the cover where shots are close as bucks tend to feel safe there, just do your homework... Buckshot??? I live in N.J. and at one time that's all you could use... I hated it... In close it is devastating but too many wounded deer as alot of guys would take long shots hoping for one pellet to hit a vital... So let's leave the buckshot next to the bed to greet an intruder in the middle of the night... Back to topic... Have fun harvesting any deer that floats your boat....

No worries. My crossbow is 350 fps. 100 yards in a second... pretty quick, but not quite as quick as that 30-06, lol. Interesting your experience with buckshot. Never lost a deer with it.

Gonna disagree with you on the crossbow statement... If your having a hard time with a crossbow something is wrong with your hunting tactics... 200 yds. with a rifle??? I gotta ask how many deer have you shot with a rifle a 200 yds???

Most deer I’ve shot with a rifle have been under 100 yards...80% under 50. If you’re hunting out west you better be able to shoot 200 yards...4-500 even better. Shooting groundhogs at 7-800 yards will make a 400 yards shot at a deer seem like a chip shot....BUT you have to practice and know where your guns going to impact. Target turrets changed the game for a lot of hunters, but you’ve still got to practice.

George that's what I was hinting at, deer hunting as we know it, is on the average 50yds and under..
Out west is a totally different ball game shooting at game in wide open areas perhaps across a valley... I think I've killed one animal over 100yds... But then again, I hunt the thick, nasty shit...

What's really ruined "hunting" is guys oogling over some blond with big tits whose husband or promoter signed a check for her to hunt a primo outfitter. But then actually listening to the shit coming out of her mouth or from her sponsors. [emoji28]

I don’t give a rats ass about score but it’s the only thing you can use to really know about how big it is. If you wanted a true score the antlers should be weighed and not measured w a tape. I can take two pics of a deer, one you will say oh that’s a nice one snd other will be damn that’s a toad.

All in all I hunt for big deer but love to hunt and enjoy eating them more.
