Dang, I remember back when moms/grandma's would patch cloths! Back when kids played outside and would wear holes in stuff.

As a kid playing ball, I tried to play just like him every time. He truly was my idol. I met him a few times throughout the years after he retired. I have an autographed photograph that was taken during 1985 game when he passed Ty Cobb and became baseball's all-time hit king with his 4,192nd career hit. I passed it down to my eldest son, which he still has today hanging within his NY apartment.

I also have met so many other famous people throughout the years, too many to list or even to recall each of them. One other that really struck me though was meeting Bobby Allison, another that lead me down the road of becoming a true NASCAR fan, long before all the changes after Winston was the main sponsor. I've met several other NASCAR famous people as well, including Chocolate, Dale Jr,, Richard Childress, Richard Petty, etc; etc....

I remember as a kid my dad took me to the Cleveland auto show and I got to meet The Hoff himself. Was his Knight Rider days.

I’ve met a few along the way. Really though, I can’t say I’ve ever become friends with anyone that folks would call famous. One of my friends may be considered famous among bow hunters of my age. Mason finally met him year before last when we made the trip to his home to have him score a couple of Masons buck. His name is M.R. James. He was the founder and Editor of Bowhunter Magazine. Past President of the Pope and Young Club, and a friend of most every well known modern bow hunter. I read his magazine cover to cover growing up. I spent way to much lawn mowing money on his publications when I was a kid. To me, the guys in the pages of Bowhunter were super stars. Absurd to think about that now, but that’s the way I felt as a kid.
Here is a picture of Mason and M.R. that I snapped in his home office. As you can see, Mason is holding Rolex watches that belonged to Fred and Henrietta Bear. M.R. Spoke at Fred’s funeral. As a token afterwards the family gifted the watches to M.R. Until he showed them to Mason, he had no idea what a big deal M.R. had been in the outdoor world. To Mason he was just a nice older fella that Ol’ Dad became friends with from selling Scent Smokers

I’ve met Bob Foulkrod, the Kiski’s, the Wensel’s, Lee & Tiffany, Noel Feather and Chuck Adams. While in the service, I pulled over Forrest Tucker for an ID check at Ft. Myer
, Virginia....he was going to Arlington cemetery to visit a friends gravesite. The most famous would have to be a guy named Dave who has a coyote den fetish.

Met Tracy Lawerence once as I won tickets to a meet and greet. Me, mom, wife and best bud met him. He’s a real nice guy.

Also....Ron Jeremy sat in front of me on a business flight once. I declined to introduce myself. Hahahahah

All joking aside I fly a lot for work (most years) so I see a few famous folks - Jim Thome, Mike Golick, etc. I never bug them.

I’ve never met him but Bruce Willis grew up in Penns Grove, NJ and comes to visit his sister often. He goes to a deli called the Roman Pantry every time he comes here. A coworker was in there eating lunch and saw him at a booth eating lunch...went over to him and said he didn’t want to bother him, just wanted to say that he was a big fan. Bruce looked over at the counter and saw my coworkers lunch and said, “why don’t you bring your lunch over here and have a seat”? My coworker said he is down to earth and very friendly.

Mike Golic was a regular at the Borgata casino in Atlantic City when he had the sports talk show Mike and Mike. I saw him there every time I went there to work on the pay phones...when we used to have pay phones!

In 1958 the town I lived in, Ligonier, Penna. had a bicentennial event and Dwight D. Eisenhower was there and he shook my hand.... I was 8 years old....

My grandparents owned a 159 acre pig farm and sold all of their land except for five acres in the late 80’s. They built a development on the land and there were huge mansions. Seth Joyner (Philadelphia Eagles) had the home closest to my grandparents home. His wife made dinner and brought them over dinner platters every evening. My grandparents had a blacktop area that was filled with water in the winter so us kids could ice skate and it was drained in the summer so we could play basketball (hoops on each end and painted lines...it was nice). Went to mow their grass one weekend and my grand mom said “you should’ve been here a couple of days ago...Seth Joyner, Reggie White and a bunch of other Eagles were here playing basketball”. I screamed “grandmom, why didn’t you call me?!! I would’ve drove straight here”! This was around ‘91 or ‘92...can’t remember the exact year. That would’ve been a dream come true! That was around the time when the Eagles had the number one defense.

Here’s a good story.

my cousin - you all have seen his luck over years with some nice bucks - is in Nashville having a ball. The band says, “next song recommendation” - bars packed but my cousin somehow gets heard and yells “that summer”. Fing Garth Brooks pops out of nowhere. My cousin got a pic with him and the son of a gun jammed “That Summer”.

I told hm, he peaked in life at that point. Hahaha

Dave Parker, Danny Dresen, Eric Davis and a bunch of other Cincinnati Reds and Bengal players used to come up and hunt across the road from my house. One of my neighbors (he passed several years ago) was friends with them. They all liked to rabbit hunt. FWIW, Dave Parker was a BIG man.

Reds used to show up and play charity basketball games in the off season. They would play against local PD/FD team or local officials. My Godfather grew up in Brooklyn. He knew Johnny Franco. He would always get me introductions to them and autographed balls. He used to laugh about Franco because he was older than Franco. "We used to pick on Johnny and give him a hard time. Now he's in the big leagues."

Got to meet some of the Harlem Globetrotters at a similar event.

Other than that the most famous person I know is Brock Ratcliff although I believe Mason may be becoming more famous this year.

Parnelli Jones and Roger Ward - Indy car drivers - Trenton - stayed in same motel - they autographed my tickets at breakfast - btw they were hauling their race cars on open trailers then - ticket collecter let me keep tickets - still have them
