Just had to buy another last night so we have had more room. 7 deer takes up alot of room. I always get stuck storing a couple for the guys from Tennessee until I go down for turkey season.
I am on the edge of needing another. We are maxed out at the moment and it feels GREAT! I was prepared to buy another one when Kody killed that horse, but luckily he wanted it to go to a family in need. Win/win
As much as I hate standups, I think we could use one for things other than game and fish. 3 kids can burn up some pizza rolls.
@eloucha is the beer thing a challenge? Rookies only have it in one fridge, lol.

I will always have a stand-up freezer. Chest freezers I remember mom always getting pissed when she would dig way down and find something old like a roast or something that was always freezer burned and wasted. That and just not keeping things organized well. With the stand up I've got burger on one shelf, steaks on another, then the other grocery items on another as well as a swing out basket. The door also holds all the stuff you use often in an easy to get spot.

That’s exactly why I don’t like chest freezers...the stuff at the bottom always gets overlooked.
I hate wearing steel toes just too open those doors..... Nothing like a 5lb roast landing on your big toe.....

So I have a problem with both kinds. If your shopping for a freezer don’t buy the frost free kind. This will freezer burn you stuff in less than 6 month.
So pros and cons w upright and chest.

Forget about what’s in it

Good when stacking unfrozen stuff
Don’t hold nearly as much
Once frozen don’t move it as it becomes a projectile when opening.

When you do make a list of what you put in it. Where it’s located and date. This will help w organization. Or you can empty it once a year to rotate stuff
We inventory twice a year. With pies, soups and adding more venison too the upper baskets makes it more easier too remember what’s in there.

Lol. I thought I had a challenge on how many beers we had on hand. I even stopped to buy a calculator
Damn, I thought I was being excessive and really treating myself when I bought the second small freezer, don't feel so guilty now LMAO

We have a chest freezer that has 3/4 of a pig, venison from a decent sized doe, a few random pieces of lamb from one we bought at the fair in 2019, a few fish filets from alaska (2019) left, beef, perch in it. Then an upright that is pretty full.
My in-laws run a beef farm (8th generation). They do the farmer's market circuits in the Columbus area. They have 10+ freezers of meat and just recently acquired a walk in from a local fast food restaurant that was getting rid of it. If anyone is interested they do a la carte as well as quarters/halves/fulls in S. Ashland county.
