I get what you're saying Red but you know as well as anyone some days certain color combinations make all the difference.Yes. Most run mono leader from swivel to jig. I run a 15lb power pro mainline and 10 lb trilene leader. Some go heavier, some lighter. As far as the flossing debate, you'll notice 99% of the fish caught are hooked on the opposite side of the face and 99% are hooked from the outside in
Yeah this wouldn’t work well for your style with the egg sinker. You’re basically throwing a Carolina rig. But if you were just throwing the jig then this could be an option.I use a barrel swivel tied on one end to the heavier poundage braid. Leader line attached to the other end of the barrel swivel and a lighter weight than the braid. That way when you get snagged on the rocks and have to retie the line there's less work involved with cold fingers trying to make that connection. Egg sinker goes above the barrel swivel with a bead to stop it from sliding down and hitting your knot at the barrel swivel.
I once thought this too, but I respectfully disagree. We have won tournaments without using any tails.I get what you're saying Red but you know as well as anyone some days certain color combinations make all the difference.

Honest to God, it doesnt matter. We havent run tails in a couple years. Just whatever jighead we grab. And we run smaller jigs because it's easier to slide into their lip from the outside. And I guarantee there ain't too many folks gonna out fish Nate and I on a consistent basis. Just a couple guys on the site.I get what you're saying Red but you know as well as anyone some days certain color combinations make all the difference.
I’d like to try it.It's really not as complicated as it sounds. In fact, I think the set up is fairly elementary in comparison to other rigs. If you're serious about coming up and trying it, I'll take you out.
Well how do you avoid tickets from the man in green hiding in the bushes if all your fish are hooked outside in?
Must pierce inside of mouth. Doesnt say which direction it comes from. The DNR Doesnt hand out tickets for outside in fish. Like I said of the 10,000 fish caught every day up there during the peak, 9,999 are outside inI've done it with DNR watching from the bank behind me, numerous times. Law states the hook must protrude the mouth. Been fishing the river heavily during the run for 20 years.
Hell yes. On a normal day I get off at 2:30 and should be up there by 3:15

I won't be able to do mornings until I take some vacation time or I'd take you up on that. I can fish pretty much every evening though if you're able.I was hoping to get some time on the river next Tuesday, Thursday morning and the following Monday if anyone would want company
