Over five miles this morning to get around a couple birds. Made the walk, set up almost perfect. Birds came within five yards of me, gobbling and strutting ... and Mason could not get a shot off. I did not have a gun with me. Sure was fun. I am worn out.

21.8lbs, 10-1/2" beard, 1" spurs. 6:45am in Butler co. this morning. 5-6 gobbling on the roost. Him and his buddies couldn't resist, he was the first in line. Shot him with my grandpa's '97.

Weird morning. Gobbled their heads off yesterday and silent today. Had 3 jakes slip in and one gets a ride home.

I missed him the first time. Had him under ten yards and tried to head shoot him. I missed. Not by much but I did. He started walking away so I grabbed an arrow from the quiver and shot him in the middle of the back at about 20 yards. He didn’t go far at all. Maybe 20-30 yards, doubtful it was that far actually. Glad I had sense enough to realize there was a good possibility for a second shot if I missed and prepared for it by adding an arrow with a conventional head. Thanks for the congratulations!
