What is your policy on shooting does with yearlings? Does where i am seem to always have them with them.

Was tempted to make an orphan about 15 min ago if she stepped out where the yearling was.
They are plenty old enough. And you may teach them little ones a very good life lesson. Another month and mom is going to push them away to be a slut anyways. Send it!
I respect both sides, but I hunt for meat and foremost. I have taken plenty of mama does through the years and watched the yearlings grow up over the next few months, but most don't make it through gun season up here. Therefore, it's first come first serve in my book for the areas I hunt.

This is STRICKLY left up to the shooter!!! 
It is DEER season....NOT yearling season, doe season, buck season.
The fawns are weaned and can fend for themselves...food wise. Personally, I won't shoot one, but ONLY because there's not enough meat on that animal to justify my tag.
Legally, the State says they're all good to go. So, shoot what you want and be happy! Good luck and good hunting!

Thanks for the replies. I need some meat in the freezer so a doe even if she has yearlings will do then.
Looks like Mother Nature intended them to be toghter at this time - i took one doe with a fawn and regret it to this day. But to each his own. Good hunting to ya all

This time of year I base it on how independent the fawns are from the mother. If one or both are always right with her or even suckling on her she would get a pass. If she has button bucks tho there’s a good chance they’re already wandering and already independent of her. Come November she will start the kick to the curb process anyway. Button bucks without their mom in the picture are less likely to disperse from the property.

FYI, fawns are what you’re referring too I think. Yearlings are deer that are a year old.
Shoot whichever you prefer. The remaining deer will be fine. Me personally, I’ll shoot the fawn and let mom keep on her way. That tender little morsel will go right into burger patties. Probably won’t even freeze any of it. Lol

Until I had my kid. After that I have never done it.
Not sure what’s up with that.
But I have sat in the blind with my kid and watched him shoot a doe with fawns.
Not going to teach him other wise. Just my own little thing.
It doesn’t bother me one bit if someone else does. Put the food in the fridge.
It’s really a personal decision.. If you don’t someone else will.
My dad that has passed on would shoot the fawn over the big doe. He said better meat and we all know that’s true.

For me, it depends on doe... just this morning I let a young doe with a fawn walk, she wasn't much bigger than the fawn. If it was a big nanny, I'm sending it. The fawn will be fine.
If we are gonna break it down.
I won't shoot a doe with triplets. That mega breeder needs to live.
If the choice of a doe with twins or a single fawn, I'm taking the doe with the single fawn.
If I'm hungry and want to let the population grow, I'm taking the button.
If gun season, I've been known to stand with other guys and take out the entire gene pool. We count to 3 first, so it makes it totally okay.
First deer of the season usually get the dust knocked off. Doe or fawn gets the dry heaves from me.
