2021 SHROOMS!

They did look dry or parched and it had been awhile since I had been back there so I don’t know how long they’ve been out.
can I do anything to make sure they come back next year and become more plentiful? Lol
I had a tree that was covered with them a while ago…the following year there was nothing. Don’t know if it takes a couple of years for them to return or not but there was enough on that fallen tree to fill a few 5 gallon buckets.

Entolomas ( shrimp of the woods), anyone ever try it. Levi said he found a bunch the other day and he was going back today to pick them. I’ve never heard of them , but he wants me to cook them🤷🏻‍♂️

I like shrimp of the woods, some guys call them eggs. They are an aborted mushroom that didn't grow. I picked my first hericium yesterday. Another that is easy to ID & tastes great. Going to some big woods today to look for hens. Been seeing lots of oysters to.

You guys impress me. You’ve really got to know what you’re doing when identifying edibles.👍

Alot of caution i think needs to b taken now. Shrooms have exploded everywhere with current rains. If ur eating any kind of white wild shroom know 100 percent b4 eating. Deadly amanita species could b mistaken for younger edibles even the puffball. Bring on the hens!
FNG throwing down some info like a boss...🤣

Did a good search in one of my best hen woods & didn't see any sigh of them. Couldn't believe it. All kinds of other stuff , no hens. NE Ohio.

shaggy manes are out. taste like a hearty shroom. B good on meat in a sauce or anything you want to turn black for looks. Ive never cut or cooked an inking sea creature but maybe the results would b the same blace mess

the only time I've eaten Shaggy Mane's was on moose hunt in Newfoundland. they were growing everywhere up there in September, and they were pretty tasty. saw some in someone's yard along the road yesterday. they were pretty big ones, and a bunch of them.

I found some nice fresh Hens today on my way out of the woods after morning deer hunt. and a giant new rub. :D

easiest way to find out is to slice them open, amanita "eggs" are typically ovoidal and not constant inside like giant puffballs, rather you can see i guess what i would call the grain of the mushroom form different shapes, and for amanitas like amanita muscaria var. guessowii you should to make out color on the inside where as puffballs are pure white (when edible) with no distinct grain in the mushroom. first 2 pics are amanita where you can see the structure of a typical mushroom and the 3rd picture is the inside of a puffball. Happy foraging everyone!

is this considered bulbous? If a shroom has a cup will it be always be clearly split from the stem when it matures?
