Agreed. Overreach
Seatbelts should still be voluntary. Just like helmets.

I used to think the same thing, but after designing & building ATDs (crash test dummies) for 4+yrs, seeing the data, and a 3 totalled car crash in person, I'm glad it's enforced. I fully support darwinism, but auto safety has saved many many close people to you in one way or another.

It all started with Colonel Stapp when he realized more of his fighter pilots were being injured/killed in 35mph frontal crashes driving to the base than flying in his aircraft. One of my favorite clips on the advances, and that was 12-13yrs ago:

With all respect, I continue to disagree. I am not a fan of government mandated and enforced security. Especially when my not wearing a seatbelt affects nobody but me. And I am not a fan of the way this law is being perverted further to infringe on individual freedom by making it a primary offense. Do they save lives. yes. Would a five point harness system save more? Yep. How about a national system of transportation where individuals are not allowed to drive at all? Instead we are all forced to sit quietly and obey while those in government decide when, where and how soon we get where we want to go? That would pretty much remove all traffic related fatalities. Yet I sure wouldn't want to live under that system.

Its just another example of government overreach and infringement on freedom and rights of the individual. All it does is further condition the population to obey and makes us easier and easier to control.

Correct. You are giving up a freedom for safety. Just like this pandemic is trying to do.

I do where a seatbelt most of the time. But I also chose not to from time to time. I don't think I need it to run around the block looking for deer at 25 mph. Now running back and forth to work at 80+....surrounded in traffic doing the same, you damn right I wear it. That should be my choice.
