What was the markup? 50%? Or 150%?Also I was able to find out what they paid for it at auction.
Well the GMC is out, too much rust and switches under the dash lead me to believe it was used to plow snow. So they also have this Ford much less rust, one owner, already had the mount for a 5th wheel. This is a gasser but I’m my opinion that is better, has a 108,000 miles on it

Avoid the 6.4L diesel at all costs. Don't even take it if they pay you to take it.
Rust? All according to who owned it, how much they drive in the winter, and how often they wash salt off in the winter. I'd say most of the work trucks seem to begin rusting in less than 10 years. Pretty sad.
I wouldn't be afraid of the 6.2L gas motor at all. Seems the Ford and Dodge gassers can have some top end issues after 100,000 miles. Not all. If they do my mechanic said $2500+/- and you are good for another 100k or more.
Newer diesels are impressive on power. Haven't owned one to offer personal input.
Never owned one. I've heard great things about them. Paging @giles as I think his last Ford was a 6.7.
@"J" the Triton V10 did and certain year 5.4L had this issue.
@Clay Showalter if he goes with a 5.4L have him do some research. Many of them out there have been work horses with 100-200-300k miles. A few years were problematic. If he goes with a northern truck, be certain to check exhaust manifolds. Those are a known issue on a lot of plow trucks. 5.4L and the 6.2L gassers have manifold issues. I've seen some big fleet plow owners who budget for new manifolds every 4-5 years.
I would buy the gasser all day long in today's world.
I swear this is like me buying a truck lol, he is now looking for 12,000 5th wheel towing capability so that opens up the Chevy/GMC 2500hd gassers. I know the fuel management is an issue, but easily done away with. Let’s hear other issues with the gassers.
Two other things to note, there are a ton of northern trucks that get dumped down south, and if I keep doing all this looking I am going to end up with a new to me truck.
The numbers on these newer trucks is amazing. I couldn't justify buying a diesel for a weekend hauler. Hell, you even see these guys doing hotshot with gasser trucks now. Sure a diesel will out perform them, but who actually need 500 horses and 1,000 foot pounds? You see these guys pulling these 10,000 pound campers all over the US with half tons.
The Ford and Chevy drive completely different. Going from a bare bones chevy to a lariat Ford are not even close to being in the same league. He needs to drive them and find which one he likes better. The chevy rides smooth, Ford rides like a truck. Ford will never rust if he is looking at the newer aluminduty. I also thunk the 6.7 is the superior of the 2 diesels. Gasser I would go with the 6.2 over the 6.0 but I'm not sure about the newer 6.6. Adam seems to continually be impressed by his.
In the end, it is all about comfort. He needs ass time. If he doesn't like the way it rides, he won't keep it. They are all plenty capable. Some just do better than the others in different areas. Like fitting in a garage, turning in the grocery store parking lot or overall comfort. If he is looking to do mods, these are also different by each brand.
